Re: 2011 Great Lakes region meetup

OK, so what is my deadline...

Er, um...

What part of the summer do we think this little hang out time should happen anyway?

Yeah really.....some of us are a ways off from splash with what seems to be a mountain in the way......

Grzzz--

maybe we should also do a southwest auxiliary mini regatta at Da Butte or one of the lakes up near you (or the Sea of Cortez....?)? i'm in Hell Paso and my wife lives in ABQ (due to job) so it's a loooong tow to Grt Lks or even Portland but i'm up your way pretty regularly.

of course, i have to get the Starchief floatable 1st.... mere replacement of drivetrain and rewiring, shouldn't take too long.....

i assume TheWrks is in some other Farmington than the one in NM?

Barato

Maybe I am getting this blog to work for me?? Would be great to get a desert auxiliary going!! Those from back east don't realize the number of lakes we have out here and the great fishing. I caught over 100 9-10" perch couple weeks ago up by Taos. Within an hour -2 hour drive I can fish trout, bass, walleye, pike, crapie, catfish, stripers, salmon, ling cod,... lakes from 2500' to over 8000'. I've gone completely through mine. There isn't a rivit that hasn't been tested, a part that can be replace was and if could not be bought was rebuilt. A wire that has not been re-run. Had the motor rebuilt at a speed shop in Abq. Thats a whole nother story. Out-drive at Elephant Butt. I increased the deck space by putting in an under the deck tank. Moeller builds one that fits nice.

Let me know how it's going. Ice fishing starts in about a month!! Going to Kansas in 2 weeks for pheasant hunt. Oryx hunt mid Dec.

I'm assuming we'll wait until late July or early August to give folks time to get everything finished. This also allows northern Michigan time to warm up a bit.:p

I'm going to be pulling my Merc off and rebuilding the transom on my SS this winter so I will need some time to figure out how to put stuff back together too.:)

I planned on fishing Erie this summer and checking out the Put In Bay / Kelly's Island area. So if you guy's decide on Erie or as far north as Lake St. Clair, I am in.

Man this sure sounds like fun!! I'm in Amherstburg Ont., just accross the border from Detroit so anywhere in Michigan would be just fine with me!

I just did a google map search and to go to Lake St. Clair, from here is 1600 miles, I really wish we could make it but that is just to far.

Sounds great. Learning from the dismal failure of TinStock.......plan it for a location closest to the majority of participants. Forget about centrality, go for majority proximity (I think I made up some words there). For example, if 10 people live in Detroit and 2 people live up-state, don't hold it somewhere in the middle to accommodate. Hold it in friggin' Detroit so at least you get those 10 people!!!!

I am interested in attending (probably without the boat) to meet some of you.

Another thing that would be helpful would be for all the folks who say they're coming to actually come:D

I never heard so many lame *****ed excuses in my life.

I have watched this forum for some time now, just last summer I updated my 1960 16' Viscount to a 22' Islander. I am 15 miles SE of Toledo Ohio and would love to attend your event. Lake St Clair to lake Erie would be good, Grand Rapids area would work, all the way up north mabey pushing things a bit much to tow that 22' all that way. While it tows excellent my little old Blazer tow vehicle may be taxed a bit heavily.

Airshot you are more than welcome to attend:)

We have not made any decisions on the location. As far as having it further downstate, I've been thinking about Waterloo Recreation Area as an option.

It is the largest park in lower Michigan at 21,000 acres, and has 11 lakes w/ 8 boat launches.

Seems like a great place to camp and launch the boats. None of the lakes are huge but for shallow-drafting tin cans they are plenty deep.

The Inland Waterway is pretty far north for out-of-state folks, so all options are on the table.:)

Algonac has a state park with camping. It's on the St. Clair River and 10 minutes by boat into Lake St. Clair. North into Lake Huron for those with bigger boats.

Even those with a 14' boat can go on the River and carefully into Lake St. Clair. The boating is awesome, fishing is great too. A day trip to Strawberry island for some swimming would be nice. Port Huron is twenty miles north and has a boardwalk and some small shops for the girls.

If you're coming to Michigan the Great Lakes are a must. For the record I view lake St. Clair as the sixth Great Lake.:D

I would like to hear from some other SE Michigan Starcrafters. I'm strictly into fishing and not pleasure boating so I may not be the best host. I know the fishing hot spots but not the entertainment areas.

I?m in, (if) this can be put together in August; by then the SS will be finished and all the bugs worked out. I live in central Oh, and would not have a problem pulling my 18 SS to Michigan for a Starcraft party; and fishing vacation. God willing, I will be there.
( I know the fishing hot spots but not the entertainment areas.
) is there some other form of entertainment i dont know about other than water/boats/fishing???

There is quite the bar scene on the Lake. You can dock your boat at the bar and party, party, party. I stay away from the whole boating and drinking thing. Every year Lake St. Clair gets it's share of boating deaths, alcohol is involved too often.

You can drink responsibly and find some fine dining along the Lake and River.
