Re: 25 evinrude backfires
Hi Willowcat

I think Moonfish hit it.

If the firing is mostly through exhaust, it sounds like lean-sneezing. I've had a couple of these motors. If you checked spark with a spark gap, and found it fine, try following:'

1: Retignten all nuts and screws on intake manifold, and both carb nuts.

2: Check if there is a small keyhole shaped silicone gasket around the iddle mixture adjust screw. If there is, and it doesnt fit tight, replace it.

3: These low tension ignitions can really tease you. Do check if both sparks will jump a 5/16 gap to ground with strong blue flame.

4: Look if fuel and oil squirts out anywhere, if it does you have an airleak.

5: Clean the 3 small holes in carb body, inside bore, just above butterfly with a needle or so, remove iddle mixture screw and blow compressed air through. Be aware when assembling again, iddle mixture screw must NOT be turqued to stop. Initial setting is 1 1/2 turn from gently seated in bottum.
