25 Horse Merc; Lost Reverse

I was participating in a clean-up today on a bayou in my sixteen foot john boat with 25 horse Merc. I was pretty hard on the motor (lots of shifting between forward/reverse, running through slop, over submerged logs, etc.). The shift is in the throttle. Late in the day I lost reverse. It happened suddenly. It will still go in forward and back into neutral, but no reverse. Thoughts?

Probably a broken reverse gear or it might be missing the teeth on it.

Incoop just messin with you. have you remove the cowl. and seen whats going on. tiller F/N/R ?

Haven't pulled the cowl yet. Yes, F/N/R in the tiller. It was working fine all day then suddenly would just no longer go in reverse.
