I am interested if anyone has converted a points ignition to an electronic ignition in a small outboard if so how hard is it to do do you use the existing coils and where can you find the conversion parts

Not worth the effort in my opinion, but there have been some posts on it. Run a search and you will come up with some posts.

I actually did the exact opposite. I bought a 1968 Evinrude 18 that had the red Atom ignition modules and converted it back to using the points and condensors. The upper crank seal was leaking oil and the PO probably had the ignition modules installed since the oil was fouling the points. I did order a spare module in case the conversion didn't work. But, the motor runs like a champ after I had the upper seal replaced and converted back to oem. If you're intent on doing this, Banta saw in Canada still had the modules as of 4 or 5 years ago. I couldn't find them anywhere else.

Myself would rather run the origianal ignition system. They're easy to replace and once replaced, then they'll last for years.
