25hp Merc -won't run...? Ideas????

Got a 1993 Merc 25hp Outboard-ran fine last year...this year won't stay running.It fires and dies on choke then floods out the plugs....does this thing have a fuel pump or does it feed off the tank vaccum.I have no experience with outboards and the manual from the factory is crummy.I have all new fuel,new tank, and a new primer bulb...Help

It sounds like you have a inlet needle sticking and the carb needs cleaning. Nid you winterize the engine properly last fall or just put it up?

i have a 25 mariner that did the same thin. the choke blade was sticking closed even though i de choked it with the knob . i had to remove the carb . then remove the choke blade and clean the shaft the choke blade is mounted on . took 15 minutes to complete the job .

I fogged it and drained the gas- I'll try and take the carb down tonight and see if it helps.The bowl was clean and there was no water in the system anywhere.I have started fresh with a new tank/gas/primer etc. Does the motor has a internal fuel pump or does it just feed off tank vaccum????

when i pushed in the choke to run when it started the blade shaft was sticking causing the blade to stay closed thus remain choked even though i had pushed the choke in to the run position

He don't have a choke, but he still has a carb problem that is not corrected.

I do have a choke which seems to be working fine-It just will not stay running, I'm gonna pull the carb tommorow and see if I can find anything there.I can't figure this out-I'v e got too many blisters from pulling that motor over

Yes the engine has a fuel pump.

Yes,It does have a choke/primer whatever....sorry I disagreed with you....no need to have a bird-I was wrong ,you were right...happy?
