Recently my pops and I have taken up the task of replacing the transom shield on our Volvo 280 o/d.. Now that shes apart we noticed on the exaust pipe or manifold (y pipe I think its called) that along side the main hole that goes through the transom there are 2 relief holes and we cant figure out what they do and why they were just blocked off by the transom there is a hole that looks like it would line up but it doesn't and its got a rubber plug in it. WE just want to make sure this is normal and that its not gonna cause any problems to just put it back the same way...
So to sum it up in a simple question, Will a 4cyl transom shield work with a 8cyl exaust (y pipe) manifold with 2 relief holes? What is the purpose of these relief holes? And will it effect engine performance or any crucial operating components?
