bud if you look around....lordco has 4bbl for under 200 (rebuilts).......you might need ot get 3 or 4 by the time you get a good one.....but they arent that expencive considering the kit is over 100.

Hi LG67, been following this thread for a while now and just wanted to say I'm impressed by the work the two of you are putting into this restoration. Looks like you're almost there mechanically and good luck with the Mech Eng degree. Cheers from "downunder"! :)

Well, i Called Lordco, Mercruiser, and GM, along with a specialty carb shop in town, and none could source me the metering rods for our carbs. carbs are Rochester 7044291, which is apparently an uncommon one :(

Carb looks good.Make sure the paint doesn't bind any linkages or block any orifices.I painted a carb when I was young and forgot to plug a vacuum port.It wrecked havoc on my performance.I did the strip clean, rebuild procedure a few times before I decided to clean out that vacuum port and clean the fitting off.It leaked just enough to cause hesitation and stumble while taking off to **** a man off.LOL

Matt,

Make sure you remove and clean out the internal fuel filter at the fuel line connection. It's inside, right behind that large nut at the front of the carb. I noticed in the pics above it is still in place. Not sure if you had already removed it or not. That filter should be removed and cleaned (if it's the screen type) or replaced (if it's the stone type).

Good catch.I didn't think of that. Some rebuild kits include a new strainer, but they can be bought at any auto parts house. That part isn't marine specific.

Re: 29' Carter Safari

well, i wrestled the starter back onto the starboard engine and it kicked, so i threw a little gas down the carb and turned the key, amazingly it sputtered to life for 20 seconds ....but then died..Turns out that little filter in the carb, the one we were talking about earlier, was completely plugged up. I scooped some gas up in it and it acted like a cup, nothing came through:mad:..... Sooo, i left it out, undid the fuel line from the tank and dropped it in a fresh jerry can of gas.(i just wanted to hear the thing run!.. haha) Cranked it over for a bit, it sputtered and coughed, but nothing of any time period:(

One of my friends dad is really good with carbs, and used to tune hundreds of high performance cars and hot rods. He offered to come over and help us tune them, because i have never tuned a carb in my life...... fuel injection has been primary in cars since i was born......

If she has been sitting a long time might have to build the carb. My old linner flooded the engine with fuel on the first start attempt. After the carb rebuild I had to change the oil and pull the plugs to dry out the cylinders.
