3.0 140 & Aloha 1 gen 2 - things to look out for ?

If your guess is right, then your valve adjustment is too tight. As I said before, I have never seen an oil problem cause this.

Thanks Rick, How would you explain compression going from 0 to 140 on all pots if that were the case ?

1 valve in each cylinder sticking open, or carbon or something keeping them open. Or your readings were wrong. 0 compression = non-running engine. By your theory, the lifters would have to overpump. Don't think that's possible.

Thanks Mile, when it happened I called a friend who has 50 years working on marine engines including the 3.0 and 470, this was his analysis of what happened.

if I tried to start the engine when compression was 0 it wouldn’t start but after waiting - compression returns and she started and then cleared - no more loud popping.

whatever it was it seems to be gone. I’m back at the boat yard this week and will do a basic engine service and see how it goes with compression testing

Engine service completed.
ran her up for 20 mins and did compression test

1) 160
2} 140
3) 170
4) 160

pot 2 a little down but I don’t think it’s too much to worry about.
