Hi,
Ok guys, I need a little help on my 1986 3.7 190.
So far I have been out exactly 5 times this year and have limped back every time. Here is history of problems and work done so far this season.
Let's start by saying that my last outing of last year (after running perfect all season) the boat developed a non-idle condition. I thought, no big deal I'll rebuild the carb in the Spring. I winterized, fogged treated fuel and put away for Winter.
>Changed all fuel filters (twice)
>Changed all fuel lines including fill and vent
>Changed intake manifold gasket
>Changed carb base gasket
>Replaced points, condenser, cap, rotor, wires (twice), plugs (twice)
>New head gasket
>Replaced exhaust manifold and elbow with a decent used set and new thermostat, machined the surface of the manifold that elbow bolts to (note to self; if you shorten surface, you must shorten bolts or you will have re-do installation after filling cylinders with coolant)
>Removed, cleaned, tested and re-installed heat exchanger (4")
I think that covers most of it. Finally this Friday night I was able to head out fishing. Kept it local just in case. I was still having issues idling under 1000 rpms for any longer than a minute. At this point, I still haven't rebuilt carburetor, so I'm thinking "it must be that, it's all that' left". After running it up to full temp at 3200 RPMS I stopped and lifted the doghouse to inspect my work. This is when I noticed a light oil vapor coming from the breather hose. At this point I'm fed up.:frusty:
Any ideas what this may be? I'm thinking "rings"??? I don't think valves would do that??? It seams to definitely get worse as it get's to full temp (170 degrees)
Compression test while hot;
#1-142, #2-138, #3-130, #4-120
Coolant held 17 psi for two hours without changing
