Please bare with me if this has been asked before, I did a search and didn't find exactly what I was looking for.
I've just become the owner of a mid 70's Johnson 70hp outboard on a equal year Sportcraft boat. I plan to use this motor on another boat I own, so I'm getting ready to do a full on tune up and cleaning. The motor hasn't run in a few years.
I noticed yesterday that on the controls there is what looks like a rubber, for lack of a better term, half plug with three female connectors in it, just below the key switch. I assume it's for a kill or emergency switch of some type. I don't however have the mating cap, or cover for it if it's a kill switch.
Am I correct in assuming that this is the emergency stop switch?
If so, I'm guessing this is where I'll need to start the project. Either find the right cap, jumper it out, or install a new switch.
Does anyone have any input?
Thanks,
Alan
