Re: 30 weight oil in older outboards?
Any TC-W3 oil will do, but for my oldies that are bushing engines, since they need so much more oil, meaning 25:1, I give them a special treat: Synthetic ester Motul outboard oil. This stuff is bio-degradable, smokes less that dinosaur based outboard oils, higher film strength, and the BIG bonus is it forms very little carbon and keeps the rings free, which is paramount to continued reliable operation. Check out IBoats, they have some fine synthetic outboard lubes availlable that are great for these old bushing engines.
In the old days, we could get Mobiloil Outboard Oil, and Chervon Outboard Oil, in metal quart cans, it was non-detergent, but left alot of carbon deposits, stuck rings, and fouled plugs when trolling. It was all we had however. I still have a full can of the Mobiloil on my shelf
