Hallo , i have a litle (or verry big) problem , i recently bought a 33 h.p (with a hood of a 40)and if i put the spark plugs (short shaft) QL77jc4 and gaped them (2 cilinder)and put them in , and cranked the engine , it wil not run ,and after checking the plugs for fuel , i noticed that both pistons have hit the spark plugs , and closed the gap to 0,00 mm , i put in 2 (new)plugs from another engine , with solid gap , i mean those spark plugs without gapping posibility , because ther is no gap the spark plugs are 3 mm shorter , and the pistons dont hit them (UL18V), after cranking the engine ,the engine started and idelt for 6 seconds with a lots of smoke , my bad mix oil /fuel was 20:1 , i know now that the mix has to be 50:1 , but what about the spark plugs , what do i have to put in , compresion is very high , the engine sounded very good ,smooth for 6 seconds ,and then it stalled , i am trying to get the flywheel of to take a look under the flywheel ,to clean points or check the points , touch flywheel, does not want to come of , i would like any kind of information that could help me , figure this out , thank you for reading and greetings  info i got on my engine is : year 1966 model RX14 h.p 33

It is indeed a 1966
use a champion j4c gap at 30

you can gap these at 35 and makes them idle a little better

fuel mix will be 50:1

Hallo.

Thank you for the fast reaction MR Bubbakat & MR Rolmops , that was quit impresive Rolmops , you are right (Rolmops)) about: dont starting without fuel mix , i would not dare (i own a RD-500 V4 2 stroke)and yes the first thing i did was , put the engine (intake water)al the way in a barrel with water, cleaned the carb squized a litle mix in (wrong mix, 20:1 )the carb , by the air filter and in the spark plugs hole before putting in the plugs it started , i stopped disasembeling the fly wheel and asembeled it back , because i have a good spark alright ,i just orderd 2 spark plugs
j4c and if ngk its B7S , monday noon i wil get them , i already made a good fuel mix 25:1/2 and yes i would like to order the book but dont own a creditcard (i'm only 33) and i prefere wiring cash to an acount and then get my stuf because i see many people getting in trouble with credit cards ,i never had one , maybe i'l consider taking one only to order murchandise , 1 more question the 2 idle screws (air and Fuel) should they be over half way in or out ? in is lean out is rich , for starters what should it be ? thank you guys again for reading and reacting , p.s Rolmops I boat on the river The Maas in a spitfire 2,60 m its a 2 seater , howdoe !

Re: 33 h.p sea horse 1966 spark plugs ??

Hallo Rolmops , and the rest , i got the spark plugs ,J4c , $5,- for 2 , gapped them at 0,80 mm (0,030 inch) and they both got a firm bleu(not orange) spark , and the pistons dont touch the plugs . totaly difrent spark plugs then y use on my 25 h.p from the 80's , trying to start the engine again , y got another question : is there a difrence between squizing the fuel/oil: mix at the air intake or squizing it in the spark plug holes, before i put the spark plugs in ? silly question maybe ? but i wonder . ;) greetings and thanks a lot

When you spray into the air intake you lubricate the engine innards and the fuel air mix will enter the cylinder during the upward stroke. When you just dump it in the plug hole it may be on its way out before ever having been close to any spark.
