Is the core plug at the rear of the engine (behind flywheel) the same size as the ones in the side of the block thanks

No, and if you lost a core plug, you most likely have a cracked block as well.

How did you winterize?

you know that the block is most likely cracked just under the manifold. it may also be cracked just above the pan rail on the inside.
