3M 5200 WILL come off before it sets with plain ol' rubbing alcohol. Just thought I'd throw that out there.
Instead of a razor blade to remove excess silicone on the surface of the boat. Try applying painters or masking tape on the well cured (24 hours) silicone you wish to keep, then spray a little Goof Off or similar adhesive remover on the excess silicone. Then use a plastic spatula or plastic putty knife and the silicone comes right off. Rinse the area off immediately and pull the tape. This eliminates the risk of scratching the gelcoat. I've been doing this recently to clean up joints around portholes and hatches that the previous owner of my boat did poorly. For cleaning ourselves up. We'll use a razor blade for the excess on the boat.
