I'm making great progress on a rebuild of my 1986 Merc. 4.3L V-6 that someone else took apart for me. Had to replace the starter & on the new starter there are 3 poles for the wires. The main is for the 3 hot leads & then I have only one wire left. I recall that on the old starter that wire was on the block side of the starter (looking down from the top) but I don't recall if it had that extra post. I can't tell from the picture in my manual which lead that wire goes on. Can anyone confirm which post to put that last wire onto?

if you are talking about the wire with the small eyelet. If your boat only has one it goes on the S terminal on the solenoid. S stands for start

IS this an OMC, Mercruiser, or Volvo 4.3
The wiring is different on each one. And what color is the wire you can't figure out?

I know that the wire goes on the starter - just uncertain if the left or right post.

Terminal B Should be a Yellow w/red stripe wire.

Don S. Any chance of finding this sort of diagram for the re-assembly of the power steering & alternator. As I mentioned above, someone else took this all apart for me. My Mercruiser manual has lots of good info - but is pretty minimal on photos/diagrams like this one.

Sure, up at the top of this forum is a sticky titled ADULTS ONLY. In it is a link to the OEM service manuals you can download to your computer. Free.

Thanks Don - unfortunately I have previously downloaded that manual - for my model it is #7 and the pictures are not very clear or detailed. I'll keep looking.
