I have a Stingray 4.3 that moves to 42 mph with a 17p prop at 4800. My Glastron 4.3 goes 50+ (haven't had a chance to top out yet) swinging a 23p prop.

Each boat is going to be different even though they may have the same drive and motor combination. I looked at many boats newer or older, before I bought my glastron... all were 4.3 mercs and the advertised top mph's for each boat were all over the place.

Hope this helps you ...

The MerCrusier 4.3 with Alpha Drives had several different gear ratios. You might check to see which each had. it will make the comparison easier.

My '88 19' SR Sorrento 4.3LX went 42MPH with a 21 Pitch Rapture

My carbureted 4.3 19 foot stingray hits 55 with a 23 pitch aluminum prop, and hits just shy of 50 with my 23 pitch stainless steel hi 5 prop. Its got a 1:81 gear ratio.

I have a 1996, 19 foot, caravelle 1900 se bowrider with a 4bl 4.3 that runs 50 mph gps@ 4800 rpm with a 19, ss, 3 blade mercury mirage. Doesn't seem to matter much 2 or 4 people, 4 just takes a little longer to get trimmed perfect allowing max rpm. Id like to try a new prop to get more top end but i don't think there is much left.

Hey SDW,

Do you have a Manta Ray or like you said Monterey?

Just wondering because I have a 94 Manta Ray 203 Fish/Ski 4.3LX, alpha one gen2, 4 barrel carb., 19p prop and the two test runs I did (before I just recently tore down the engine to see why I was getting water in my oil) I was getting right around 47mph. at 4800rpm. My new engine will be supped up a little so I am expecting 50-55 mph.

You would do MUCH better to tell us what YOU have and what you hope to gain...... All this other stuff is just chit chat.... the fact that your motor is a 4.3 really doesn't mean it has anything in common with other boats just because they have 4.3's

Go look on the prop page at the "read this first" sticky and reply back with that info.... then we can get a mod to move this to the prop section and get you lined out.

I already told people what I have, get your facts rite before you make a comment, I am not trying to gain anything just asking other 4.3 owners how there boat runs. I dont know why this would bother you.

Why don't you calm down a little... I wasn't bothered AT ALL and I didn't attack or insult you in any way.... I'm ONLY trying to help you get the best info possible.

It doesn't make much sense to change props if you don't want to gain anything and while you DID list your boat, to figure prop pitch you need rpm and exact speed.....

Re: 4.3 merc speed

I have a 2011 Tahoe Q7i with the 4.3 MPI (220hp) Alpha 1, it has a 19P Mercury Enertia 3 blade stainless. The boat really has not been broken in fully yet however I did do a WOT run briefly and it registered 58 mph on the speedo trimmed up (can't remember the RPM I think it was at about 5000) This was with myself and two others in the boat.

I agree with Smoke however...all of us telling you what our boats do doesn't really mean much for yours. You should be telling us what YOURS does and what you have...and also go by the guidlines of WOT and what rpm you are at with your prop size.

Re: 4.3 merc speed

what did you do to the new engine

I am having it built by US Engine Inc. (www.usenginesinc.com) I ordered the supped up version. Supposedly it is bored out a little, they use a different cam. and I think they do some porting to make things flow better. They claim 50 more HP and I think like 27 torque, and 25% better fuel economy... We'll see. I'll let you know in a month or so when I get it back out on the water!

By the way I like the thread you started. I get your point, I was interested to see where everybody stood as well. Oh, and my gear ratio is 1:84.

Dang PrinceValium, you must have that thing waxed up! 58 is awesome! I hope my new one runs like that...
