The plug for the main harness would be the problem. I have made my own wiring harnesses for engines, cut the plugs off both engine harness and helm harness and just used a terminal block to connect them.
I will upload some wiring diagrams and post a link so you can see what has to be wired in. You will also have to deal with the fuel pump wiring so it operates safely. Not a big deal, but needs to be done.


Here's the link to the wiring diagrams. Look at the 4.3GL, that is what you want your system to look like........ Basically :rolleyes:

Holy cow that is EXPENSIVE!!!! Do you have any kind of salvage dealer in the area that mightr have a complete harness?

That will be my first stop...junkyard's that is, it seems for now anyway that the volvo plug and merc are universal fits just the wiring sequence maybe different...I have found a pigtail only..but shes a merc..i have to find out if the plug is universal

Those plugs are universal. I have one that I cut off an old harness years ago. Put a toggle switch for ign and an push button and use it for everything with type plug. My igntions switch so I don't have to run to the front of the boat for everything.
When I worked up in AK, I used to throw good ones away on a regular basis. I did a lot of repowers and always had them things laying around.

If I knew you were doing this I would have brought you down my whole Holley 4 Barrel set up along with all the bits and pieces and swapped with you. Course I am selling my Wellcraft now and it is the type NC motor but I bet it would have all been a direct swap.

Well i just got a knot in my shorts and its off to the races..:D..This is a rather spefic mod right heads right cam springs etc or complete mod missing the valve train or the wrong heads would dumb it down..only hope it works but im quite sure it will. The mechancial part will be a breeze..maybe 6-8 hours..now the electrical...im breaking new ground there but it should be ok...285 hp and lots of even tourque..maybe 300lbs

I have know ideal what a complete factory TBI system is worth it will be intresting to find out..they are extremely expensive parts individually i never had any ideal of there cost..Ill bet i almost break even if i can find a buyer..stuff is low hours maybe 80 and good working order no issues..;)

I still think 285 is optimistic, But I guess it really doesn't matter, it will definately be stringer than what you started with. I can't wait for the in water testing. Should put a smile on your face.

What is a TBI setup worth? Only the ebay gods know for sure.......

TG, you do realize the only special connector you need for your wiring harness is the one that goes on the coil for the purple and gray wires go into.
Other than that, you can just use ring terminals on some colored coded wire to do the job. Even the start relay will only need push on terminals from any parts store.
Even an aftermarket Carter electric fuel pump comes with an oil pressure switch to hook into the system. The wiring part is easy, trust me, and I will be around to help you if you have problems. with it or don't understand something.

290hp base line at 5k
subtract 30hp (crankshaft vs propshaft ratings) = 260
Difference in the heads is probably negligable
subtract for the "bigger cam that was in the magazine engine
subtract for the long tube headers that was used on the magazine engine. Marine manifolds just don't flow real great.
Where does that leave us? under 250hp at the prop and still risking reversion unless the cam is stock or close to it.

But this is still one wicked V6! Stronger than the pre-vortec 350's(yes, they were 260hp, but that was crankshaft rated) and it still 100lbs lighter. That weight difference can important in smaller boats.

Ive talked with comp cam and revised things a bit, the cam should not cause reversion... going to different rocker arm's..1.6...918 springs and different rocker arm studs..

In regards to that article there using one big carb there...im looking @ the 600cfm guess i wint order the metering kit..However Eldobrok suggested a riser to aid the manifold...:confused:

By riser are they referring to a carb spacer, or did they mean adding a riser to the exhaust?

A carb spacer can make a noticable difference, of course now you have more decisions to make. Open, four-hole, thickness, material.......
