high capacity oil pan, decent sized external oil cooler, new, good quality STANDARD volume oil pump (important!), be careful with cam overlap (reversion) and don't skimp on exhaust (plan on 1500+ for manifolds and risers if you buy new).
Lots of other good, marine specific information online if you search for it. If your engine guy hasn't done a lot of marine work, do your homework...
I did a 383, but would seriously have considered a 400 if it was convenient.
I've run the 383 almost flat out (without letting up) for over a 1/4 tank of gas before without issue. Builder (does mainly marine with some race cars, etc... as well) said that for a boat I needed good oil cooling because it would get hot if I "run it". I'm not sure if they do any of the bearing clearances or other dimensions on fitting aside from meticulous balancing and bluprinting.
