A quick question for you guys. I just got a 45 chrysler and was trying it in large bucket for the first time and noticed water coming out where it should in the back of the motor but also pumping out of a small weep hole next to one of the lower unit mounting bolts. Is this normal? The motor does not get hot or any other problems.Thanks.

Please post a picture of your concern or a link showing the weep hole. What year model engine? I have a 1970 35 HP Chrysler and I am not relating to a weep hole.

I did not spot the weep hole but relate to seeing a few bubbles at my 1970 35 HP Chrysler leg?s join (attached). That was a concern until I thought the leg is not sealed vs open, what could that hurt IMO. Please give an opinion Pros!

Under the bolt head and lock washer. I'm not versed here.

Hi MNfuncpl,

I have circled the hole I think you are talking about in your photo.

Hole.jpg

I have also attached a couple of photos of my motor (1998 75).

side2.jpgHole1.jpg

It has a drain hole similar to yours that lets water out of the mid leg. This only happens when it is in the water or being flushed on muffs. Water will drain from this hole for a couple of minutes after being flushed. The excess water from the hose bypasses the lower seal and fills the mid leg when flushing. The mid leg also fills when the boat is in the water as most of the mid leg is submerged.

You may be able to tilt your motor out of the water far enough to see if water drains out of this hole next time you are out. I’m not familiar with your motor but I suspect that is what the hole is for. It looks like it is part of the design to me.

TwoFish, What software application did you use to mark your weep holes? If not PhotoShop, do you know if PhotoShop will work? Thanks!

?What software application did you use to mark your weep holes?? I made some progress with MS Paint to ID my leaking joint vs a weep hole. I feel PhotoShop will give me an Ext that might not be friendly. At the least, I can say, ?In The Marked Area?. LOL.

Hi Warewick. I used corel draw 12. Imported the file as a jpeg. Then exported the file as a jpeg. I have used Corel for years at work so find it easy to use. I also used a freeware program 'Infranview ' to crop and size the image. Im sure Photoshop would be able to do this but I don't know how.

Sorry to go off on a side track. Did the earlier post make sense?

Thank you for the responses. The hole does seem to be some type of drain but it suprises me as to how much water pumps out of it when the motor is running in a tub of water.
