Hi sxott
Read the thread

Identify your motor. Very specifically identify the combustion mix of bore, stroke, piston style, heads, rocker ratio, cam duration, etc

Identify your carb. Specifically the air horn numbers and any mods done

Report it all back here
hi Scott. He’s getting his wee one settled just now. He will respond asap. It’s well past bedtime for young uns here in Scotland. He’s super keen and appreciative of the help. She’s been a labour of love this boat. Nearly there with her. Youlll likely be aware of the incredible princess brand with their multiple million dollar price tag of late. This is a simply stunning 1990 classic 286 Rivera. A rare machine and the choice of the playboys of the late 80’s in the places to be. The last of the smaller boats they made and just an out and out muscle machine, but with the internal finish of the QE2 thrown in.

That’s her above there. The photo of her between two other boats gives you an idea of her build. The boat on the left is a maxum 2400 scr around 25/26ft. Lovely thing.

@QBhoy , princess is the UK variant of Viking

Know a few folks that worked at both companies

However without knowing what motor and what carb, we can only give general suggestions

I know the carb is a Holley 4150 600 cfm and the engine is well..:just the same as any 96” onwards mercruiser or Volvo Penta 5.7 vortec carb. But rated for up to 5000 rpm I think. Whatever the cam is in the usual engines like that is. It’s the same, I’d think. Mechanical fuel pumps running about 5-7 psi low down I’m sure.
Edit…it’s as pictured below. But with petronix ignition now and Holley carbs as described above. Says 4800 rpm there at 300hp. Not sure about getting that with 4800 rpm, but not an expert. Thought his were 5000 rpm at 300hp anyway.

Yeah. They were and likely still are, about the best boat of their type available, I’d say. Finish on them (certainly the classic ones) is unrivalled I think. My parents have a 42ft from 89. It’s exceptionally well made. So much so, that things like the woodwork around the boat have the grain pattern of the wood matched and lined up to bordering sections. Exceptional hulls on them for these wild waters up here.

If they were both new motors, they will be 9.4:1 CR with

Something about this for a cam

202 duration intake
214 duration exhaust
395" lift intake
404" lift exhaust
112 lobe separation.

600 CFM carb will be fine. However need air horn information

Is it a vac secondary or a mechanical secondary carb?

Thanks Scott. As far as I know they are mechanical and double pumpers. Although I’m not certain. I know of two familiar boats with Holley carbs. One of them certainly is. Not sure exactly.
The engines were new in 2015, if it helps or matches your suggested info. Great info too.

Need air horn numbers

And with motors being 2015, do a compression test
