Little history first. I got the motor because the previous owner couldnt figure out how to fix his lack of power problem. Long story short the bulb on the fuel hose was bad and after checking the spark strength with an adjustable ingnition spark tester I found out there was no spark to the bottom cylinder. Problem was fixed by replacing the plug wire. The other owner showed me the receipts where he had paid to have the carbs rebuilt by a local marina (who I am familiar with a trust) last year but the previous owner took them off the motor and took them in then reinstalled them himself. He also told me he messed with the screw on the controls below the tension bolt for the throttle. I realize the carbs are probably not adjusted right but my concern first is that the warm up lever barely moves and this may be a major reason the engine wont start without holding the butterflies open on the carbs and it wont idle but does run well above idle speed. The previous owner also assured me that the timing was not messed with becasue he didnt know how to check it. What I need to know is if anyone has had any experience with adjusting the warm up lever and how to adjust it. Could the warm up lever have anything to do with the motor not wanting to idle or start. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Could have plenty to do with your starting issue.

You will need to do some simple adjusting. Ill assume you dont have a factory OEM service manual? Would be handy for your first time doing this. You can get them fairly reasonably off of ebay. If not, I could type out some directions for you if needed.

If you could help me out now I would really appreciate it.. I'll get the owners manual ordered tommorrow because I have some other issues I need to address with the motor and I'll need some specifics out of the manual. thanks for the help, appreciate it.

Manual question. This is the 2nd 50 hp I've had. When I sold the other one
earlier this year I gave the factory manual from Ken Cook to the guy that bought the motor. Are the Clymers manuals any where near as good as the factory ones.

Thanks but I think I just got done fixing it. I turned the adjustment screw until the handle wouldnt move at all then I turned it the other way until the arm moved up to the point where it tripped the neutral safety switch or whatever you call it then backed it off until it would crank again. Motor started just fine. Hey just for my info, I was checking on the factory manuals and apparently the remote starter switch isnt covered in the engine manual, you have to buy the accesories manual. Can you tell me if thats true. Thanks
