Re: '56 Evinrude Lark 30HP

jbjennings, don't you know it! I like having pull start back-up but I am real glad it's electric! Is that your truck in you picture? Looks like a '56ish Ford? Awsome!

That's actually an early 50's Chevy. I hope he don't get offended by hearing "Ford"

Excellent price on the Lark, nmaccarp :D That'll be a nice resto project.

king,
when you were doing this resto. did you rely on good mechanical knowledge or a book for assembly and disassembly? i bought an online publication covering a lot of models from kencook.com but it is not what i had hoped it would be. any suggestions.

I don't have a manual yet, though it's always a good idea to have one. I'm pretty good at this sort of stuff so I wasn't too afraid to tear into the gear-case. It's really quite simple.

If I were to do a total engine rebuild I would use a manual. I've rebuilt engines before but it's good to see diagrams and torque specs and such.

I've read around here that the stock manual is really good. I believe you can get the from the Marine store here. If not here, there are other places online to get one.

Maybe someone here can point you to where you can find one?

I got a fuel tank today so it won't be long until it give her a go.

I have a question about it though. Is this little black button to pump up pressure in tank before starting? I've seen them with the silver button in the same place but stands higher and is obviously a pump.

Haven't messed with this too much yet but it pops right out when I press it.

Yes, it is a manual fuel pump. It pumps the fuel to the carb and fills it up. Usually 3-4 pumps and it is hard and the bowl is full and ready to run. It does not pressurize the tank with air. That happens when the engine is running.

Re: '56 Evinrude Lark 30HP

Just wanted to mention that I'm anxious to see that 30hp running. I hate motors that don't have pull start backup because one little corroded connection and click click click! I guess the emergency rope does usually work, though. BTW, thanks for the compliment on my old truck. It's a '53 gmc. I drove it today! I like my gmc's but, like the Ford trucks, too. I've actually had good luck with the Ford vehicles I've owned. However the wiring system on a Ford is crazy to me and I don't like the way most Ford motors sound and start, so I'm mainly a chevy/gmc man. I'm also going to tear down my '56 30hp johnson today and reseal the lower unit. If only I could find a boat that I'd like to put it on! I'm seriously considering building a boat to put it on out of plywood. Runabout style.
Later,
JBJ
