57 Johnson loss of power

I have 57 johnson 7.5 hp...it seem to rev ok in nuetral but when I put it in gear it seems to only want to rev half way ..can only get about 2mph out of it....

Sounds like you're fireing on one cylinder...check for spark!

You're coils, they're toasted eh!

+1. The coils were about the only weak spot on these old motors. The originals all fail in time. Thankflully, the new ones are 500000 times more reliable, so you should never have an issue with them again. These links will help you get the spark and other issues sorted out. You can get new coils, points and condensers, carb kits, etc... right here at iboats all for about $20 each. Holler if you get stuck.
