Thanks for reading my post. I need some advice.

A year ago, I replaced all of the seals in my lower unit and filled it with 90W "Hypoid" oil. The oil leaked back out and was getting water in it. I spent my summer keeping it full and changing it often.

This summer, I decided to take it in and have someone with more experience work on it so I didn't have to worry about it. He pressure tested it, both low and high held for 30 minutes (not sure what that means, but it is what he wrote on the repair ticket). I had run out of the 90W oil and was using some synthetic lower unit oil I had sitting around rather than buying more 90W. He drained it and replaced it with 90W, making it wound like that is why it was leaking, charged me $80 and said it should be fine, but if it wasn't I should put Lubriplate 105 in the lower unit. It's still leaking oil out and I assume if oil can get out, water can get in.

My question, is it normal or acceptable to put the Lubriplate 105 in the lower unit? Will it still get water in the lower unit?

Thanks!

When they pressure tested the LU, did the move the prop shaft, drive shaft and shift rod at all? If not, the 'test' was inconclusive at best. Was it checked drained?

My wife picked it up because I couldn't get there during business hours, so honestly I don't know. The repair tickets says it was drained, pressure tested and refilled. I can tell the oil is coming from the prop shaft seal.

That lower unit shouldn't leak if it's sealed right. What exactly did you replace on it, as far as seals go?

As far as I know I replaced all of them. Spaghetti seal, prop shaft seal, drive shaft seal, shift rod seal, the seals for the fill and vent holes, all the seals that came with the seal kit. It leaks around the prop shaft, but I replaced the seal. There wasn't any noticeable groove worn in the prop shaft or anything and according to the pressure tests the guy ran, the seals are good. Obviously if it leaks, something isn't right. Do I just put the Lubriplate in it and call it good as the repair shop recommends?

Lubriplate 105 is thicker and won't leak out, but it won't keep water from getting in. It may be leaking around the propshaft seal bushing, not the propshaft. I've seen that happen, especially if you don't put a good coating of sealant around the large o-ring which fits around the bushing. I put sealant in the groove, then install the o-ring, and then put sealant on top of the o-ring.
