Re: 5HP Twin Gale information?
Well, I'd prefer the plastic one I think, at least it wouldn't sieze like the metal one.
Does the kit have everything I need to switch it over? I was thinking I read somewhere I'd need to order a new bearing plate and seal or something?
The spring felt alright, but was just wondering, so I'll skip it.
JB-Weld dried, looks like it will do well. I was gonna put some on the inside, but I was worried what would happen if it would happen to turn loose. I've seen it hold up to some pretty extreme conditions though....
If it would happen to turn loose, I'll have it welded up if possible. But figured it would hold up long enough to see how the motor was going to do first..
So off came the water pump plate..
Looks like its been wearing against the shock absorber shaft though, thoughts?
Anyway, figured since I'd went this far, off came the prop. Found some blue goo...
One thing is that the front bearing will not slide off the end of the prop shaft. The end of the shaft is a little rough and such. I believe I could pull it over it, but wouldn't want to mess up the front bearing, as its NLA. Its not leaking, so I'll leave the inner seal alone for now, and replace the outer o-ring.. I might at some point replace the whole shaft. You can see a little bit of it in the picture above..
Finally got the absorber shaft out.
Was at 6-13/16" overall, but was at 6-3/4" at the bevel. This okay or does it need replaced?
Was a little worried about the wear on the lower w/p plate, is it broken and now too long? I can't see that its broken looking down at the spring from the top of the absorber..
