SS, thanks for the heads up! I'll get it out in the sun as soon as we get some. Of course, it was blistering hot and sunny when we were outside polishing, but now it's raining like heck:(

Yeah Kev! We really feel your pain-livin amongst all those bikini clad women:(

So, after work yesterday I got fired up for the evening shift and with a ton of help from The Admiral, got the outer rubrail and insert installed. The new stuff from Taco is just a hair larger than the old stuff. I don't know if that's due to UV degredation on the old, or if it's just plain bigger. The new stuff does look much better than the old, so with a little help from the handy dandy universal tool (Chraftsman Cotter Key Extractor) we got in in.

We also mounted some of the misc hardware to finish off the evening. This is waaayy beter than watching American Idol!!!!

She sure is looking sharp there NB. So, looks like you might have upgraded the boatel. You've got everything in there including the kitchen sink. Comming from a long line of Plumbers, I know the importance of having facilites nearby. They keep you from tracking stuff back in the house and most importantly you less often fall the victum of "Honey Do's" in the middle of important work.

Although, sounds to me like the Admiral may be getting her fair share of the Honey Do's. I know there's a lot of third hand work in putting one of these back together. I wish I would have had someone around when I was doing mine. I used a lot of ingenuity, like the rubber cement NASCAR trick to hold a wrench on a nut when your arms are just about an inch too short.:)

SS, 1 inch too short! The story of my life:D

Speaking of honey do's- The Admiral decided it's time for me tp pay for my playin and Now I'm about to swap the faucets in the downstairs half bath. Once that's accomplished I'll be out in the garage (left over from my son's racing ventures) installing these;

My digital camera just refuses to shoot a pic of the grain on the whole board but this will give you folks an idea of what we're working with.

Re: 66 Starcraft Sunchief Re-Build

OK, after a very frustrating day tryin to get to the shop I finally managed to install one peice of wood and the trim. This was not an easy task since the old peice was thru bolted and covered with vinyl. So we pre-drilled and mounted it with 10 x 3/4 stainless steel screws. I don't think you could pull it out with a tank. I also replaced the homemade platform under the transom skin for foot traffic from the swim platform.

Here's what we got so far-

NB, do me a favor and hit that paint with some 00 steel wool, the glare is killing me... :D The wood is perfect with that paint. Good eye!

Re: 66 Starcraft Sunchief Re-Build

NB I have been following your thread since inception and truly its been motivational and inspirational!

You need to post some pictures from your hunts. I was fortunate enough to draw a limited entry rifle elk tag here in Utah. Don't ask me how long I have been putting in. Its finally my turn to harvest one of the big boys instead of these spike only areas. Trying to get my project done so I can scout early mornings and fish when the bulls are in the pines. :D

I love your paint scheme and am going to pester you endlessly for advice on painting. I plan on doing the same thing but with a flag navy blue color instead of the kelly green.

Again nice work man!:)

Funny but when I see pictures of that wood I keep thinking you are redesigning to the point of luxury...... possibly we can see you in a future Grey Poupon commercial.

Oh, that is beautiful wood. Great work. And I really like the vinyl decking. What brand is it?

Is that the permanent location of the fuel tank? Don't you worry about listing to port when the tank is full?

Re: 66 Starcraft Sunchief Re-Build

SL, I was fortunate to also draw a fairly good elk tag for this September. The area I drew in (General Entry) was re-drawn after the draw to include a large area that was previously Limited Entry. How?s that for some good luck after tryin for five years just to draw the general area? I?m a little excited about that. The hunt is in Wyoming. Ask away on the paint. Just remember this one project is the only experience I'm carrying around.

Bob, I just couldn?t understand why they covered all that nice mahogany with ole cheap vinyl. But it was the 60?s and I guess the vinyl looked more futuristic and was easier to maintain/clean? Anyhow, my side panels were rotted out pretty good and the dash had about eight million owner installed holes so when we decided to replace it all, I just went a little trailer park trash crazy and this is the result :D

Mark, Honestly, I don?t know the name of the manufacturer on the vinyl. I purchased it on ebay and the grey was the only color the guy had left. The fuel tank is pretty much where it will be except a little closer to the engine. The big honkin battery and some other stuff will go on the other side and let?s not forget, my fat butt will be on the other side also :D

Re: 66 Starcraft Sunchief Re-Build

FYI - You can get that vinyl through Cabelas. When I got it, there were two color choices but I think it is down to one now. It's nice stuff with a cloth back that really helps to resist tearing. It is not resistant to harsh cleaners and the color is only on the surface but it is fuel and oil resistant. And, it's reasonably priced.

Re: 66 Starcraft Sunchief Re-Build

OK, as promised, I got the dash in today!

After several more trips to the hardware store chasing stainless steel fasteners we got it installed. Along with the dash we also were able to mount the gauges, tilt control and got the steering remounted. I?ll edit this post and provide some details a little later tonight but now it?s DINNER TIME!!!

My buddy TS Really wanted to see these pics.
