Once the wood goes in on Friday, it's just re-wiring and then the seats!

NB she looks amazing . You have done a fantastic job for a first time resto . I thought it would be a good time to remind you where you started not that long ago . I know its hard to remember where you came from with all the work day in and day out on a resto so I snagged a picture from day one :D.

I feel your pain about questioning yourself while driving.... on what was done and what might have been done! Glad you investigated the outdrive!

Looking perfect.

Re: 66 Starcraft Sunchief Re-Build

So we?re still trying to keep it moving. I have to work tomorrow so I spent the evening trying to make sure I?m ready when the wood guy gets here Friday morning.

First came gluing up the vinyl on the dash shelf and while I had the glue out I figured I?d hit what us car guys call the dead pedal.

So I glued em up with the outdoor adhesive and followed the recommended flash time, installed the vinyl rolled out the air and set some weight on the dead pedal.

The shelf went directly into the boat. This took a little jockeying around but I finally got it in. Here?s a couple of shots to show what it looks like now. A lot better than that faded vinyl we took out.

I also installed the steering wheel and found a place for the new GPS/fish finder. While I was in there I spent some time separating wires and generally cleaning up/removing all the junk wiring. That?s even starting to make some sense now!!!

We ordered a custom switch panel with lighted rockers, breakers, and one primary power in but it?s gonna be a few weeks out so in the meantime, we?re gonna wire everything into this and attach it to the bottom center of the shelf under the dash.

Progress!!!

Re: 66 Starcraft Sunchief Re-Build

NB, just something I thought long and hard about. On my automatic bilge pump, I bought the rule switch too and then decided not to use it.

Instead I used a better quality m-off-on switch with a light built in and did away with the fuse. My feelings are that I want that thing working well past the point of overload if I need it to. If I smell smoke I can turn it off and let it cool but I may not have enough fuses to get myself out of a jamb. I also used 12gauge wire so the pump windings will fry well before the wire will light up.

Just my way of thinking.

Also, nice idea with the dead pedal, my consoles have a similar feature. My dad did that with the boat he built years ago.

SS, we also plan to delete the brand new rule switch for an on-off-on, I don't understand the momentary on Rule's manual option.

And the dead pedal came with the boat.

NB, momentary is necessary because the automatic pumps are not designed to run dry. These are so quiet that it's easy to leave one running and burn it up. In the normal on position, there is power to the float/sensor which, as you know, is the switch that activates the pump when needed.

I had the same intention as you until I read the fine print for the pump.

OK, this is the day I've been waiting for all month! No not launch day!!! Wood day!!!

Last night I finished installing all the supporting structure for the side panels. This was basically just riveting the front upper supports and screwing in the bottom channels.

The wood guys showed up this morning and we went about installing the cup holder/cubby hole thingy on the motor box, installing the side panels and here it is!!!

Re: 66 Starcraft Sunchief Re-Build

O.K. that's it!!!! I'm requesting audio on this board so you can hear our jaws dropping!

Here's something I'm doing that might interest you. In the county I live in we have a tax on vessels. I just had my boat appraised by the county tax assessor office and it was re-valued at 18,000.00. I took that to the insurance company and that was all I needed to get the total loss replacement value changed. I had my major receipts and credit card statements ready but didn't need them.

This just worked out for me but you can have your's re-appraised to make sure your replacement value is correct for the like new condition of the boat.

The drawback is that my taxes and insurance went up but I really don't care. This was the first time that someone other than me put a realistic dollar amount behind all the work.

Gratification from a Tax Assessment? Just goes to show you, we are insane and darn good at it too!
