Re: 68 Mercury 200 (20hp) engine rebuild

Is there anyway to check for a bad valve? I haven't done any research on that so I'm not even sure where they are located but I would assume inside the cylinder block. Do I just have to take it apart to see or is there some kind of test I can do fist?

Thanks for the advice.

I think I got it. While messing with the carb I noticed that the throttle was all messed up. I screwed around with it for a bit. It wouldn't let me turn it at all and it was like the carb wasn't getting opened up. Don't know what I did but all of the sudden the throttle loosened up and began to work.

I also took the carb that was on there off and tried with my old one. It didn't seem to do much at first but after that throttle thing got fixed two pulls and it started and stayed running. I ran it in the tank for just a bit. I dont like to run it in there for long. Checked the pee stream and it was good. I looked over everything and so far so good. Now off to the lake!!!!

Thanks for all the help. I'll update you all on Monday or Tuesday. Happy 4th!
