Bret, Just want to say nice project, the interior looks great. I gotta ask a FNG question, what is 5200 and do I need it?

Nice idea with the blue rivets. That is an excellent example of the kind of thing you can only get if you do a full customized resto. Great work.

Bret looks really good, you might want to put a piece of PVC pipe in the gunnel and run your wires down through it as Sschefer did on his rebuild. Keeps it all in one place and tidy. sschefer put a piece of string through and around the outside so he can pull wires for future wiring jobs .

As they say in the Prego Commercial.... It's In there! :D I was planning that one, and have the wood backing in there already

5200 is a 3M marine adhesive and sealant, It works better than silicone, and I am using it on any screws/bolts/rivets that go into wood to hopefully keep the rot out. :D

A nice place like that to lay out of the sun doesn't seem like such a bad idea does it?

The boat is looking great!

TP,

I am shooting for 5-7 coats of varnish as the one side will be exposed to the weather. I will be using the 5200 to seal any screw or bolt holes I make (footrests, instrument panel / console, ect.)

AP - Thanks for the encouragement. Some days it doesn't seem like things are progressing at all.

Andy and Kev -will get your parts out Mon -sorry for the delay

A Question for all you roll and tippers:p When you say closed cell foam rollers, what do you mean? there are firmer and softer ones, which do I want? Do I want 4" wide 6" wide or larger for these lapstrake style hulls? Also, how thick do you load the paint on?

Re: 68 Starcraft Starchief 18' Cuddy Restoration

Bret I am using the white 4" ones . On the front of the 5 pack from Homie desperate it says ( Ultra smooth high density foam ). On the back above the UPC bar code is ( 4FOAMQ-5 ). They are $8.00 and some change for the contractors 5 pack . I load the roller and then roll it in the little pan a bit before I start rolling on the boat and you hve seen the Gloss on my boat :D.

Ooooh. Looking good. Nice work.

Regarding the speed at which things get done, I found that even if I only did 20 minutes of work on the boat, thats 20 minutes less I have to do next time. It helps if you can have some work benches set up where the tools and supplies can be left just as you need them.

At any rate, you're making good progress!
