now get the water pump replaced.

As for PTT, on those motors they are a real pain--you have to pull the motor off to remove them. The seals never seal back, but sometimes they run all rusted. So be sure yours works first. There is a 20Amp fuse hidden in the motor that serves the PTT and the starter that you need to know about.

what is the PTT?? i am going to try the motor first but i has cracks in it and i figure salt water got in there and siezed it . also is the water pump hard to replace? i need to fix my gas tank aswell and change oil

i found the # on the outboard motor and it turns out to be a 1988 so i dont know were you are going with this 1986

because I had a 1988 my father bought new. I replaced it with a 70 that didn't look like the 1988 but looks just like yours. No numbers on it, not even on the freeze plug, but a mechanic who works on lots of old motors said he thought 1986, based on the changes. As I said, I wasn't certain.

If your numbers are on the motor bracket and not on the engine block, yours could be a combo, too. All I'm saying, is nothing is certain.
