72 evinrude 100hp stator/flywheel/carb questions

Trying to restore this engine to previous glory, and just acquired its twin (72 Johnson 100hp) as a parts motor. After removing both flywheels, I noticed that the stator in the Ev had white plastic wrapping, while the Jo stator had green wrapping. What is the difference, and which should I use? Also, when reattaching the flywheel, what are the pros and cons of using AntiSeize on the flywheel nut and the crankshaft the flywheel sits on?

The last question deals with the carbs. Looking at the parts list between the 100 and a 125 hp, the only difference in part # I see is the high speed orafice. are they interchangeable, and what are the pros and cons of making the change. Also, the manual mentions a special tool to remove and install the orofices. is such a tool required or could I make one?

Do not use anti-seize or any kind of lubricant on the crankshaft tapers !!!-------That was tight when you removed it because when nut is properly torqued it stretches the flywheel taper over the crank taper.----That is the way it is.--------This locking of the tapers is what drives the flywheel.

1. Can't say for certain, but one or both of the stators probably have been replaced at some time in their life. Color means nothing that I'm aware of.
2. Absolutely not!!!! The shaft and flywheel tapers must be clean and dry. And the nut must be torqued to 100 ft. lbs. Ignore this and destroy the flywheel and crankshaft.
3.. Orifice plugs are precision parts, matched to the engine. You must use the correct one. The special screwdriver has parallel sides on the blade. Using non-parallel blade risks spreading the soft brass orifice plug and making it harder than ever or impossible to get out. Sure, lots of people have attempted to fashion their own. Some work, some fail.

EDIT: I think the torque spec I gave is incorrect. I believe it should be 70-85 on that motor. I'll have to get the book out to verify. Suffice to say it is extremely important that it be correct.

EDIT, EDIT I was correct the first time Should be 100-105 ft lbs. Just goes to show, don't always trust your memory.

Not sure what parts list you looked at.-----But the 125 model is 99.6 cubic inches displacement and the 100 model is 92 cubes !!

In addition to the differences in the carb jet sizes, the throats of the carbs a probably different too. The 125 has 1 5/16" throats, the 100 may have 1 3/16" throats. Mixing jets in different size carbs does not always work-unless you have done a lot of carb work.

Thank you very much for your responses! /concerning the part lists, I was comparing the Carb parts for a '72 100hp and a '72 125hp Evinrude. However, based on comments, I will probably stick with the 100hp parts. Does anyone have some dimensions on the orifice tool, or is there a thread in the forum that could help?
