No need to apologize 8)..the rank is from posts all over iBoats. We are just a bunch of people helping each other out... very laid back.
Think of it as talking to a friend.

Hey I know y'all are my friends.. i wish i had a face to go with a name. I can't begin to tell you how much everyone has helped me. I wish for my comments to never be taken as mean, smart-mouthed, or rude...it is a true pleasure to talk w/ everyone. I just can't begin to explain the guidance and help of all of those involved in helping me make the correct decisions.

Never rig any kind of spray system to the carbs!!!
It is not even safe to spray fuel in a marine motor it will create fumes and just starting can go BOOM...
I have seen lots of fires from people doing so trying to start at the marina and on the water.
I have been a firefighter for 15 years and been boating all of my life.
My father also has a small boat rental on the bay. He has used mercury inlines for years. If they don't start with a few pumps on the bulb and the choke. You have Link and sync or carb and or fuel flow problems.
The pump and drool way like Tim said helps when they become hard to start cold. Also we have had no fuel pump trouble as stated above by gold bear from this method.
A good carb cleaning will usually fix hard to start problems.
Have a happy and safe day, Floyd

chief i'll tell ya! i messed my own self up because as i stated in another thread about installing a new internal wiring harness and stator, i tried to start it by cranking it for 4 or 5 seconds w/ the choke button pushed--maybe 7 or 8 attempts like this w/ idle lever all the way forward...learned from y'all thats not the correct position... i pulled the dist. cap and it had residual lube or oil i believe leaked down and into the dis. from the grease fittings on the dis. Where i messed myself up was attempting to remove the first plug wire...yeah the end came off still SCREWED into the cap.. so i have had to wait on a new wire end. Not the dumbest thing i've ever done but, i'm stuck on land for now

Another mistake many people make with this model inline. Is try to pry off the rotor button in the distributor / trigger. It does not come off. It is made on the shaft.
