Hi, just thought i'd post some pics of my 74 SRV 220 that i'm redoing. I seem to have misplaced the first p0ictures i took of her so here's some of what i could find. I'm redoing the stringers and floor this year and doing the transom next year. The old floor was ok but the foam was soaked. The edges of the floor were dry so i left a ledge for the new floor. Stringers are made out of 2 pieces of 1/2" glued together with piece of 3/4" glued on top. They are wraped in 3 layers of 1.5oz fiberglass to seal them up and then tabbed to the hull using 3 layers of 18oz. They are very strong. I then ran 3 other stringers to the other stringers to give it even more support. Originally it had the stringers just sitting the foam not even attached to the hull. The floor i'm using 3/4" sealed with polyurethane and then glued and screwed in place. Then i'll fill the diff in height around the edges and glass them in. Should be very strong. I've also added some in floor storage. I have enough room to store 3 bumpers on each side. What i'm doing is adding little things that i like that i've seen on other boats and incorporating them into mine. Call me sick but this is the most fun i've had working on a project so far. Working with wood and fiberglass seems easier to me than working with steel.
Thanks,
Jeramie

Re: 74 Sea Ray SRV220 redo

I'm having flashbacks to my 1973 SRV220 now.... urg.

You're doing a pretty good job. The hard part for me was getting all the old plywood and wet foam out of the boat. It looks like you're working with some of the original decking in place, which is probably a good thing.

Keep posting pics, maybe I'll learn to not cringe when I see one of these old Sea Rays :)

Re: 74 Sea Ray SRV220 redo

When i was 16 we put a new floor in my buddies 16ft glasstron and used the edge of the floor for the new floor and it worked out good. That was 6 years ago and it's still strong. I figured i'd do it on this one as well. The original floor wasn't that bad. It was the foam that was soaked along with the stringers. I probably took out over 200lb of wet foam and wood. The stingers under the engine are good thankfully abut the edges of the transom are mush and the same around the drain plug. Just trying to get to a point to where i can use the boat while i work on it. I'm going to try and update it everytime i get something done to document the process. I really don't have any pics of when i first got it. It had **** brown outdoor carpet and whitish tanish seats. Ugly as hell. I'd like to use a white marine vinyl for the floor then do red snap in style carpet but i don't think i'll get the floor in good enough shape for that.

Re: 74 Sea Ray SRV220 redo

I'd recommend re-doing the motor mounts when you do the transom, you'll have to take part of them out anyway. Usually the Sea Rays have a ton of fiberglass around a wood core, which is one reason the mounts tend to still work even though they're mush inside.

My recommendation would be to redo the transom, mounts, and aft stringers (pretty much the section from the front of the motor/back of the gas tank back) at the same time, and try to rework the back deck section so it's a bit lower and lets you get at the bilge under the engine easier.

One other thing... if you want to get on the water, get another boat and use it while you fix this one. Nothing goofs up a restore like hurrying on something because the weather is nice :)

Re: 74 Sea Ray SRV220 redo

Here's some pics of what i did tonight. Finished up the floor, sprayed foam around edges to fill the gap, and started mocking up the swim platform. I used great stuff to fill the diff in the floor, its polyurethane based so the polyester won't eat it up. Tomorrow i'll level it off and get ready to do some more fiberglassing. Hopefully that will be the end of the glassing till next year. I figured out that i'll need some 2" stainless flat stock to make some brackets for swim platform. I really like the way the platform adds to the boat. It's pretty big, 22"lx80" which tapers to 71"w. I plan on making it pretty strong as i can see it getting some serious use.

Same color as mine was, same hardware. I like the red, it's just a great color for a boat.

I also like your "booth" that limits where the dust goes. Pink foam is a great temporary wall :)
