Found a crank today. Will take it to the machine shop Monday. Hopefully this one is good.

Re: Stripping paint

Just dropped the rear main seal off at the machine shop. Block is vatted, maged, line honed, bored and decked. Crank is vatted, maged, measured and will polish out std/std. Pistons and rods are cleaned, checked for balance and big end honed. One was separated from the rod just to check rod balance and to put it in the machinist's words "Someone did a nice job on the balancing".

As the monkey said when he caught his tail in the lawn mower. It won't be long now. :)

Yeah. Gonna be a busy couple of weeks here real soon. I'll be glad when it's all done and both boats are ready to hit the water.

Re: Stripping paint

Made a little progress on the Poncho today. This thing has been kickin my arse. Everytime I think I am going to make some progress I find another issue. The latest issue was a difference in the dipstick tube between my old 77 year model block and my new 67 year model block. In the older blocks the tube is held in by the windage tray. The newer blocks did not have this windage tray and the tube was bolted to the center main cap. The older center main does not have the boss or holes for the bolts to secure the newer dipstick tube. The solution is to install the windage tray. I found an original Pontiac full windage tray that had already been cleaned and powder coated. I had the drill it to clear the ARP main studs. Also bought an original non baffled oil pan to work with the tray and traded dipstick tubes with him. All just to be able to check the oil level. The oil pan was a wreck. I had to beat out a couple of dents and paint it. Bottom end is finally all buttoned up though. Hopefully the top will be done by tomorrow night.

Little more progress. Got the heads on and the intake cleaned up, cleared and installed. Still need to check push rod length and I have one intake bolt that didn't feel right when I tried to torque it. I'll get a replacement tomorrow. I think I am on the downhill side of it now.

Re: Stripping paint

Both boats are kinda on hold. We took a week vacation in MX and the Monday after we got back I came down with shingles. If you have never had it it kicks your ***. I never want it again. Dr. says it takes 2 to 4 weeks to recover. I am 8 days into it.

Re: Stripping paint

Took the boat to an all Pontiac car show this year (Pontiac Southern Nationals). I think it cleans up pretty good.

Re: Stripping paint

If anyone is wondering, this is a really fun boat! Matt took me for a spin in her yesterday, it was a blast! I had to leave the meet early, but it was a good time....a really nice group!
