Looking good. Once I had mine all riveted together, I used sealant to close all the gaps to force the water to go out the drain tubes or sit in the splash well.

Getting close now!! I can feel the waves already. Got the driver side console completed (minus the drilling for gauges. Just need the Passenger side and a bench or two then I am done with the wood work (temporarily). I'll try out the layout once I get everything mounted and wired again, then clean everything up when I carpet.

I finally got it in the water this weekend and ran everything. The new "cooler livewell" works perfectly, the motor ran great, lights good, radio good, bilge pumps working, fish were biting, everything was great....except for the shifting. I just replaced the shift cable as it was seizing up and causing the shift lever asm in the control box to jump gears and get stuck in forward or reverse. I also put in a new shift lever asm. occasionally when I wanted to move to a new spot, I would start up the engine and throw it into forward (or attempt to), but all it would do is rev up. It was not engaging. I would then put it in reverse and it would engage and I would move backwards (as one expects) then try forward again and it would then engage. The same would happen in reverse. Does this sound like I just need to fine tune the cable adjustments? I thought I had it good but might have some excess play in the cable. I haven't taken a good look at it yet since I got back from the lake, but I am headed on vacation with it on Fri and would like to get it figured out by then. Worse case I have to shift it manually (which sux but works, I have been there before). BTW I will post some pics probably tomorrow. It is by no means finished but is functional. No carpet or paint yet. I decided to put in a bench/platform in the back which took away some space on the inside but I am happy with it. I put the livewell in there. I have yet to really do anything in the front as I am unsure what I really want up there, benches like how it was or another platform with a pedestal chair. I used some nice Toro seats for the driver and passenger and they are real nice!

No Title

Here are just some random pics of the boat from vaca. I made my tough deadline of having a working (but not complete) boat by Vaca to Hayward WI. Everything worked great (with exception to my shifting issue, but I think that's just a matter of fine tuning). Still trying to decide if I even want to carpet, paint with bedliner type material, or both. But now that its working and vaca is over I can start taking my sweet time on it.

Update, I have been back and forth on removing the flotation foam in the hull and replacing... But in the end I decided since I am already in there and wanted to remove as much weight as possible I might as well, plus it gives me a chance to check for leaks (found one and pluged it), might need to bring it to the welder if the stuff I used doesn't hold but appears to be doing the job (out of the water with the hull filled anyway). Rivets I ordered are due to arrive today and hopefully I can get the Transom cut sealed and installed tonight after work. I am just using the pink insulation foam for flotation, to prevent any ports from clogging again.

What (pink) foam did you use?

my guess is that Mike just used pink foam sheets that can be found at most hardware and home improvement stores. Our local Menards carries it in 4' x 8' sheets in a range of thicknesses. The idea is that the sheets will not fill or block any drain channels like spray foam could possibly do.

Guys, this topic is:

About an aluminum boat, BigMacs is fiberglass

and

Been inactive for nearly 6mo, well over the 90day mark to be treated like a library book: for reference only and not to be written in.

Wierdboy hasnt even logged on to iboats since July.

Ask questions in the topic you started BigMac, start one about your rehab of the Capri beyond the foam removal, or ask a Mod to rename the float foam topic to something more along the lines of a rebuild.

Wierdboy, if you want this topic reopened, PM me kr any Moderator. Thanks
