Looks like you may have a good solution to the mini monsoons we get...keep us posted on how it holds up to the wind and rain...we are getting into the rainy season, and I will be looking for an inexpensive, but good solution to my water collector...

Using one 10" piece, two copuplers and two 5' pieces is the ****zna...worked much better on the two end hoops. I would also suggest using the lighter schedule 80 in 1/2" for the rib up top to keep them all straight.

Got the Plastic tightened up.

SP I know what you mean, but it was 11:30 and dark. I got it fixed up today.

Well the other four hoops started pulling apart.

DSC00930.jpg

Soo....I pulled them out , bought 8 couplers, cut some 5' sections, glued them on, with clear cement this time...
DSC00931.jpg

The Mrs helped me put it all back together. Looks real good. Nice and tight, and I have somewhere to get a grip for the rope and stakes to hold it down. Was too dark by the time we finished to get some pics.

I will see if I can write something up with drawings. Might be of use to others that are garageless like I am.

I also got a little work done on the lights for the trailer. Will finish that up tomorrow. Had mower troubles again yesterday....should have seen me mowing the back yard...backwards and in circles :).....but I got it fixed finally. Now I can mow like the rest of the world, in forward gear....lol

Happy Easter folks.....did Woody get a float?

Maybe you can dbl your hoops up side by side but offset the couplings . Fasten together with zip ties or thru bolts. I think that would make it alot sturdier. Maybe.

It is plenty sturdy now SP with the way I have it. it isn't going to pul apart again. Much less strain (ok half) with the added coupler, if it works the way I suspect...I ain't no Engineer :)

Beautiful Easter Day here in Louisiana!

Wires secured and covered...

Also Put the safety chains on. Did I mount these correctly?

I think I'd put some washers on the bolts where the chains mount to the frame. Just for insurance.

Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy

I also wanted to test the PL today. Had some scrap pieces of araucoply. Which method should I use for the PL? I laid 1/4 of stir sticks to get the test piece above the "hull"

Method 1)
On the left I put pencil marks to show where my "stringers" would wind up. I laid a bead of PL down, then placed the stringr down. My hole in the tube was too small. I had to lay a heavier second bead to get contact with the piece.

Method 2)
On the right I forced the bead into the joint, from both sides. Then I used my finger to wipe out the excess. I would probably use a squegee with the corner cut off when doing the boat for real. There was a mess using the finger to wipe the excess.

Becuase I will be going behind this with PB, do I need to worry about getting all the excess off using method 2?

Hard to see in the pic Wood, but I used flat washers on both inside and out. Just flat washers. Think I might pick up a couple of lock washers. I used Grade 8 hardware.

If there are washers, I'd recommend getting Bigger washers. I had chains pull thru a bolt head once. NOT a pretty site. For the PL I'd recommend #1. Just need it to be under the stringer with minimal squeeze out. It must cure for 72 hours before PB or Tabbing. It outgasses and will effect the resin in a negative way if it's not almost fully cured. I'd really try to NOT get much filleting with it. Use the PB for that After the PL has cured. Just my 2?!

Sounds good, thanks Wood!

Considering where you mounted the chains, they look too short to me.

I was wondring about that. I bought one chain, 72" long chain with 2 Quick Links. I cut it in half. Mistake? I thought it was too long. Where do I hook it if it needs to be 72"?

Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy

With out your tow vehicle's hitch in the coupler, and showing how & where your safety chains hook to the tow vehicle, it may be hard to judge accurate length. But I doubt you need 2 chains at 72".

I think EZ meant: The trailer ends of the safety chain seem to be mounted to the trailer fairly far back from the coupler.

Red1's trailer has the chains attached to the trailer directly behind the coupler. Blue1's trailer has the chains welded below the coupler directly to the trailers frame. The SC's are similar to Red1's.

And my receiver hitch assembly from Reese has the safety chain attachment point almost 12" back from the centerline of the ball. Well up under the bumper & truck bed. So I need extra length in my safety chains, but no where near 72".

Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy

Thanks jb. I only have a bumper for now. I had the chains crossed and connected in holes under the ball/bumper. Had the wife check, she said they did not stretch tight in full turn out in the backyard. They also do not drag the ground. I will probably be getting a hitch soon.

Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy

If they don't bind when you make a slow tight left or right turn, basically having your tow rig 90 degrees to the tongue on the trailer:

You should be good. Went old school, sorry photobucket & I are not getting along again tonight. On my SC thread, in a post from yesterday, my bucket pix aren't showing up today.

If you tested them, then they're fine. Now just attach 'em better as the guys mentioned. They'd pull off those bolt heads instantly if they were ever needed as-is.

Finally got the outdrive stand completed. Cheap, quick, simple.....

Been 48 hours on the PL cure. I see what you mean by 'gassing'....I see evidence of it on both samples. Glad I did this little experiment, opened my eyes as to what to expect. I had thought this stuff would cure hard as glass....but so far it hasn't. It is tough, but still has some flexibility to it. My earlier concerns for using PL are gone.

If you cover the fresh PL w/ a heavy mil plastic, it will help minimize bubbling. But will probably add 24+hrs to cure time:

PL fillets

Note: On at least 1 occasion, the author of that site, took a pin to some of the bubbles.
