That is great news Trooper. Hope you get all rested up and feeling 100%. Good score on the cups, but a really bad way to get them.
If you need some more I will send em to you. Hope you have a good weekend.

Glad to hear you're on the mend Troop. Try and relax a couple of days so you can heal up right. Continued prayers for a speedy healing.

Thanks Decker/CaptK.....

I tell ya I feel soooo much better....things are all CLEAR now...yay!!!!

While I am relaxing and taking it easy for a few days....I decided to test out the board sander I borroed from the son in law.....
this thing consumes a LOT of air!!

Here is the results of going over an area that still had the brown paint in place....50 grit followed with 120 then 220...only a few minutes with each....went fast...and came out smooth as a baby's bottom....
DSC01375.jpg

the thin steak towards the right...that had some stripper on it...I did not get it feathered in good....little rough there too from the sparklies...
DSC01376.jpg

this was just 220 with water...from here back to transom...I think it did very well!! and also took hardly any time...
DSC01378.jpg

The sanding exposed this giant crack too...
DSC01379.jpg

oops...that must have been a zoomed in shot...not all that big...I am hoping this just is in the gray covering and not in the glass too...

Will do some investigating tomorrow to see where it goes...

I need to go get some more stripper to finish up the strakes..or I could just sand them....we'll see....

Happy weekend everyone! (almost)

Nope, scuff so primer has something to "Bite" into and you're good to go. TIP: By a quart of Xylene to wipe down the SparKly stuff. It's a bit more agressive and will kinda "Eat" into it a bit more than acetone. Just don't wet it out to much cuz it DOES eat.

Wow, yank a few bits and pieces out of you and you are raring to go...nice finish with the sander...and yeah, like wood said...use some Xylene, sparingly... on the sparklies before the primer and your good to go after the scuffing...

+1 for don't look like 'resting up' to me.... But for an un-rested fellow, ya sand pretty darn well...........;)

Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy

Ya GT/JB...U know they can't keep me down long.....

Got a little more of the finish sanding done this evening...
DSC01381.jpg

Revealed a bad spot on the bow...
DSC01382.jpg

took my trusty highspeed rotary tool to it...tried to go under the edges and dished it in so I can sand it flush after I put my fairing material in...
DSC01386.jpg

more rotary work...didn't get as fancy...
DSC01383.jpg

more cracking revealed after sanding...
DSC01384.jpg

and yet still more rotary bizness...
DSC01385.jpg

Started mixing up some fairing material...little resin...x2 microballoons....added a little cabosil...mix...mix...bang!!! thunder crashing...wind picks up...got a front moving in just south of us....better get this stuff on!

Got it all filled in, but have a question...how are you supposed to build up corners?

More sanding this weekend.....so glad I don't do that for a living...like someone I know...hope you get some rest to those weary arms tonight so you can get at it this weekend Gus!

Happy weekend!

Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy

ok, want to make sure I am doing this correctly...

I am taking a rubber block...120 then 220 grit...making long swipes till the block clears the area from both sides...light pressure if any...

Edit: I am actually getting it close by staying over the area that needs sanded before using the long strokes that clear the area...

leaves a ring around my work area..kinda hard to see here...
DSC01387.jpg

much easier to see here..the far right side has a scrape from my scraper I used to peel the paint...the bottom too..I did not get fairing material in those two spots so will be going over this again...

I just need to know I am doing this right....

From this distance it looks like you are right on the money with your technique...in my experience, you are mainly after a perfectly feathered edge, which is what it looks like you have there...that prevents seeing a "MAP" or "shadow" of the feathered area when you get the next layer of paint/primer on...

You can also use any type of sanding stroke that will give you these results...

In all of my body work, I use a 45? sanding stroke, one way, then the other...what that does it it makes the cutting action of the sandpaper accurately follow whatever contours are there...

Have fun!:D
