Holy carp Troop! I disappear for a month or so and you get into a world of health issues and boat issues! The inside deck looks awesome. I hope your delam issues end soon for you. It took me 2 days but I finally caught back up on your progress. She's gonna be better'n new by the time you're done.

Good luck with the surgery this week, get those stones taken care of!

I'm back and now I gotta go start catching up with you all again!

Thanks, I find them pretty handy...could have had a better design though....

I made them from 10' PT wood. height and width....4x4...wish I had 4x6's fpr the tops now...would have been stronger...

Ordered wood for gantrys, took your recommended suggestion and got 4x6 for the tops. I like the idea of shade with the added bonus of lifting

Boatnut74 made a gantry system I liked...depending on the size of your boat this might work for you....

Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy

Got the rest of the far side stripped...ran out of stripper so cannot finsh the keel areas...but most likely will be grinding most of that away anyhow...

Looking for some advice on what needs to be done in a few areas...this is the lower right side of transom..a plate with some HW mounted to it was screwed in here...Looks like the glass has cracked...another question I had...the gray stuff is about 1/16" thick here...it is pretty much covering the whole boat so figured it was fairing material...I can leave the gray everywhere?
DSC01370.jpg

Here the gray stuff is much thinner...and you can see that it has cracked from the ladder mounting screws....
DSC01371.jpg

I've been using a scraper..and this is the only place where I chipped this strake?..it is red hard glasslike underneath..not resin like, but sheet glass hard and brittle...
DSC01372.jpg

The bow eye that was mounted from factory I supposed..the one that still had metal in these holes...still have not repaired it from the outside..also not the bondo type material..front keel is covered in this...I assume I take that all out, build up layers with CSM/1708 and then grind down and fair?
DSC01373.jpg

several places in the corners are like this...again same as above...grind it out..layer it up...smooth it down and fair?

See the red under the gray? that is what the stripe is made of at top of hull sides... hwich is why I asked did the gray need to be sanded down to this?

Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy

Without getting to lay my hands on it, & see it up close & all at once, man, I'm be hesitant to even comment..... But I haven't in a bit, so hang on & here we go.....

Looks like you've got a whole lot going on, and although it 'seems' that it may have gotten a re-spray gelcoat at one time or another, I'd have thought that the interior, once stripped & bare glass, would have shown evidence of a 'reason' for a re-spray. It didn't seem to look that way. Have you looked up a '78 Ebko & seen what the original exterior gelcoat color(s) options were?

Maybe it was that metal flake brown and a past owner didn't like it......

I don't know why, no basis in factual reality, but:

Ebko sprayed the mold for the hull just like most did, right? Maybe they shot the outside gelcoat & then shot the strakes & hard edges w/ a harder, more chip resistant gel(?) or resin to decrease trailer rash along the strakes which would decrease the hull's performance ??.... Maybe?

This pix:

Looks kind of like previous repair work, or re-work by Ebko before the original sale ???

BTW: Trooper, ya know you don't HAVE to do the entire hull bottom better then Ebko did originally...

And those guys weren't fighting stones

You & SP need a support group :p

Awesome work, stones or no stones! And w/ stones, I can't think of a better descriptor. So I'll have to substitute size for substance:

AWESOME WORK!!!!!!!

Troop as long as the "Gray" filler is bonded well and not flaking or peeling then sand and feather. You're "spot on" on the repairs, if it's not deep then CSM is good if deep then add a layer of 1708.

Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy

JB,
thanks man....I have seen other Ebko's of this make and near same year, they all looked the same.....brown paint over brown metal flake...then the red stripe with white everywhere else...doubt I can find anyone with knowledge if it was gel originally or not.....I have assumed all along it was white gel....but then hit it with stripper and it bubbled right up....gel wouldn't do that.

That first bottom repair I did was an area that looked like a fix from the inside to me...def some repairs there on the corners...

Hope I can get back at it hard this weekend!

Wood,

Thanks for looking in....i won't bother taking thos out then, just feather...some have gaps and cracks....getting closer to the end.......

Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy

In your stead, I'll see if I can conjure up some boat work gremlins to continue on w/ out you for a couple days!

Congrats on a successful resolution. NO PIX, please no pix........

Rest up!

Upon closer inspection, the conjured gremlins were not such a good idea. Nasty buggers just ate one of my raccoon posse members

Have a good couple of days recuperating... As if sitting & waiting a whole couple of days was possible....
