Trooper82:

I have read and followed your thread for a long time.

I'm working on my first restoration, a 1984 Larson. Your work has helped me out a LOT. The plentiful pictures, occaisonal changes in plans, and ensuing discussions of alternatives has been priceless. You have addressed almost every aspect of restoration. The fuel tank resto you did was a good guide for mine.

Just wanted to let you know how much your work has helped others (especially the beginners like me!).

Thanks
Steve

This means alot Steve, thank you....I really had no idea where this road was going to take me..been plenty of ups and downs...this is my first attempt at something like this too...so been learning tons...great folks here on this forum...so much knowledge/help/assistance...and freindship to boot. I'm just glad that it can help someone else out to learn from my mistakes....or the things that have worked out good..

I have been watching your thread as well...you are doing great work....I really like the way your stringer/motor mounts have turned out.

Picked up a few supplies for the weekend...

Tried out some paint stripper...
It did a decent job....GT - I didn't have any plastic wrap so tried using the drop clothe...I could not tell a difference...

The brown that is over the metalflake was a little tough to come off...and you can see where the stripper took off I am guessing a clearcoat...not sure if it is paint or gelcoat though...

Almost the weekend folks!!!

Looks like the stripper worked good. Did you do small areas at a time or large area? The old clear coat will fade out and look like that just from being in the sun. Have alot of old bass riggs that look just like that here in Texas.
Looking forward to this weekend, a cold front is a comming. 98 deg. Yahoooo!!!!
Have a good one Troop.

hi trooper... i got asked to look in on this as soon as i got back on line.

the de lam is a real pain....

you have a hand laid hull.....the de lam is usually caused by too much resin.... and either over or under cured.

the deal with de lam... is that you have to grind it all out... you have to chase the de lam with the grinder.

when you are grinding...you will see the cracks between the layers of glass.......just chase that out till there are no cracks left.

then re glass the area starting with csm.....use 1708 or what ever thickness of material you can to get the desired height.

then re fair and re gell.... its a pain in the butt.....but it must be done or the hull integrity is compromised.

Thanks for stopping by oops!...heard you were on Holiday...hope you had a good one...ya the delam is a pain..just hope I don't have to grind the entire hull away to find the end of it...guessing I need to just do it in sections so I can replace as I go?

Free boat wash

Is that de-lamination easy to see as you strip the paint? Or do you have to hit it w/ the grinder?
