Been in the process of redoing the boat got to the motor and had to replace water pump, starting solenoid, fuel pump.. Tried starting forever wouldn't fire. Took apart carbs cleaned put back releazied the break away switch was broke. Placed a jumper on wires for testing purposes. Got fire she started. Now it doesn't fire at all just spins starter but never gets any spark. New plugs tested the coil packs nothing going to them tried hooking back to breakaway and still not firing just spinning. Does anyone have any ideas or wire diagram so i can trace wires to see if it's the wires for the breakaway or the ignition switch??

Thank you in advance

If you go to the top of the first page of this form, you should be able to find a wiring diagram for your engine. Might be a good idea to test the engine without the control box. To test the ignition switch and the neutral start switch, disconnect the control box at the large, red plug under the cowling. Jump the starter with a set of automotive jumper cables to a fresh battery. That engine will make spark without the control box connected. If you have spark, then the problem is somwhere in the control box/wiring harness. Just keep in mind that if the engine starts, you won't be able to shut it off-no key switch. You may want to pull the plugs out and lay them so they contact the block.

I don't think 1979 is covered in the diagrams, I have a 1979 100 hp and I didn't see a diagram for mine. But hopefully you can find a cheap manual, preferably manufacturers and look there. they're about $30. If you do go straight to starter, be safe! I'll be doing the same thing with mine next week with a fresh battery. I'll see if I can find some diagrams tonight. My evinrude manual is on its way as we speak, should be a week or two.

photo 1.jpgphoto 2.jpgphoto 3.JPGphoto 4.JPG These might help.

to be honest I'm not sure where in this forum I found them or from what year its from but it looks legit :/ I know it had something to do with tilt/trim issues, which I have many at present, but it is pretty comprehensive I hope it helps

From the looks of page 4, that wiring diagram is for an engine in that timeframe. They used the plug-in dual power packs and the remote trim box (with the solenoid) from 1978 up through part of the 1981 model year. It should work for your purposes.
