You will always use twice what you think. Did you get the engine to run?

Re: 79 ski supreme

yeah it seems like such a simple project its just two stringers and a non structural transom. only problem is this foam right now since it covers the last 1.5 ft of the stringers.
thinkin of doing a sea cast pour but was quoted 1200$ last fall for just the pour. fabric not included. wood wouldnt be all that bad either

this is where its going to sit till next month. now i can decide which route to go, wood or cast. moneys pointing towards wood but my laziness is pointing towards cast.
that foam was a real bugger to get out. good thing i did though since it was soaked and rotten.

Re: 79 ski supreme

I'm at the point where I need to decide what to use, wood or sea cast. I'm really thinking wood based on price and how many other projects I have running right now.
So if I were to use wood, what kind should I be looking for?
These stringers are 2x6x165 inches

And where are people ordering the fiberglass materials? Off this site? Or where
And any guesses on how much I will need for the two stringers, transum, and various other repairs?

Re: 79 ski supreme

Reading other posts here I see people using plywood for the stringers. Is that the preferred wood? I would need a bunch of splices if I used it due to my 165 inch length. Or can I just cut down a 2x6? If so what kind of wood?

Plywood laminated with a 4ft overlap then wrapped in fiberglass will be much stronger that dimension lumber of the same length x width x height. I would use the plywood.

Re: 79 ski supreme

thanks ut, so which type of ply? and if i need a 2 in stringer should i use 4- 1/2 strips glued togather or use 3/4 and 1/2 to make a few less splices?
probably dosnt really matter either way?

so searching threads i saw a composit one link. turns out they have a supplier in the same town im traveling to next week. lino lakes minnesota. im thinking i better take advantage of this today and get it ordered.
soooo...

transum is less than 72 wide and 24 deep with two layers of the csm im thinking in the 50 in roll im at 6 ft and another 6 ft for the 1708

stringers are 14 ft 2x6s so 2- 24" wide csm strips on them 28 ft of it. and one layup 1708 14 ft

so
40 ft csm- 166.7 sq ft - 55.6 sq yds - 13.23 gallons of resin?

20 ft 1708- 6.6 gal

19.84 gal round up 20 gal

acetone

cabosil

mekp

what else
