On behalf of my penny-wise, pound-foolish boating bud. His old roller arm cut-out switch is bad, and he shifts w/o the cut-out function because he is too cheap the buy the $116 807962A15 riveted old switch/plate assy. I keep telling him he is in for big repair$ if he doesn't fix that function.

Does anyone out there have experience with drilling out the old roller arm switch, and drilling/tapping in the new slotted adjustable $41 87-8M0052936 plunger switch? Heck, I'd do the layout and drill press work over the winter for him just to save him from the costs if he doesn't fix it.

Bondo He is. He will eventually show up at my home garage with his broken boat and the right parts (which I steered him to). I've got the Merc. tools and know-how. He helps....wither down my beer and stogie supply. He balked at an eBay NOS switch. Fine. He will show up with the repl. plate, and if he's lucky, just a lower shift cable. My post was really to save me the effort. But he is a boating bud. What can I say?

Ok, looking at part numbers, the only things that change are the switch itself, the lever (that actuates the switch) and the plate drillings for those new components. Everything else is the same.

If your mate is too cheap to buy the $171 upgrade with the new switch and you're good with a drill press, you should be able to buy just the switch (87-814281A5, $51) and the lever (865433A02, $29) and a couple of 1" long screws (with nyloks and washers) to go though the switch and secure it to the plate. It shouldn't be difficult to find the right place to drill using a multimeter. You want a movement of 3/16" of the lever for the switch to close. (Personally, I'd slot the holes so there's a bit of adjustment available :D)

Cheers and good luck,

Chris..........

Thx achris . I found your lever.p/n, but couldn't find your switch. There are more plunger switch p/ns than you can shake a stick at.

I found 87-808009T10 switch on the same assy with your lever 350 Mag MPI Horizon 0W650000-1A299999. Do you think this will work?

achris "94 350 Mag, 4bbl Weber 250 horses. Alpha One Gen II.

The replacement shift plate KIT for that engine is -864363A1 (that's the $171 item). The switch on that plate is THIS one... You will have to change the connectors on the ends, or make adapters, and the switch may need a stand-off to bring it up off the plate high enough to contact the centre of the lever. I'm sure you'll manage. ;)

Chris........
I'm waiting with anticipation for your engine serial number ;)
