That explains the cobra drive.

Also do all cranks have this bolts protruding from the crank?

The studs are easy to get out. Take two of the nuts that were holding the drive coupler on and thread one on top of the other on the same stud and tighten them together. Then use the inside most nut to loosen the stud and out it comes. Once the studs are out it looks the same as its auto counter part.

Now that makes sense. Thanks so much for the input.

Well I am building a boat cradle tomorrow to get my boat off the trailer. I need to do some work on the trailer and the boat will not fit in the garage on it. So i think I have a great plan, and I will take lots of pictures.

Great project!

I love these old Glastron's!!!!! The lines on this boat are flippin crazy cool!

That boat will rock with the 5.7! I'll be watching this thread with great interest! I did a resto-mod on a 99 Bayliner, turned out very cool! I had snap-in carpet made and coated the deck with Durabak. Good stuff! Easy to keep clean. What are your plans with deck topside?

I loved that thread. I will be doing something similar on the floor of our boat. You gave me inspiration.

DAY 6

So today I had to get the boat off the trailer for multiple reasons. The weather has been really nasty and cold here lately and I need to get the transom done. The trailer has some bad bunks and needs a new coat of paint. So I set of to Northern tool for ideas. I saw a set of Car dollys that looked like they would fit the part. I went to lowes and got 18 2x4s and some lag bolts and tore into it. I knew what I wanted it to look like in my head and after about two hours I had two cradles with wheels made. it woks like a champ and it fits in my garage by two inches.

So I guess I will start refurbing the trailer before it gets too cold.

Here are some questions

1. I would like to use taller bunks on the trailer to keep the boat off the rollers, can I do this? The lowes are 2X6 and the uppers are 2x4. I was thinking making the lower 2X8 and the uppers 2X6.
2. Do I use pressure treated?
3. Is there a brush on paint that I can use? I have all the HVLP and automotive paint, but I really do not want to have over spray all over my neighbors house.

Remember click my photobucket for all the pictures.

That is an awesome idea on the stands to hold the boat up, you can move it around and do whatever you want with it. Looks like fun.

Re: 81 Glastron SX-190 Transom and Engine- PICS Galore Update 10-31

Ok funny story here.

When I was putting the bow on the front cradle it seemed really heavy. I was just sure that the bow had about 500 pounds of water and foam. Great more work. I have one of those Milwaukee Camera Scope kits from HD (I use it for my business) so I stuck it down various holes in the bow to look. NOTHING!!!! It was dry as a bone and looked brand new. So I sat back and thought of why the boat was so nose heavy. So I went inside to get a beer (it was 5:00) so I could think. The minute I cracked open the beer it hit me. I filled up the gas tank at the end of the season to keep out condensation. So right there is 220 pounds that was throwing me off.

It is amazing what beer can do.

Off to home depot for paint and bunk wood.

Beer is good food for thought!

Are you planning to re-deck?

I had the wife looking at your pics last night... I told her one day I'd love to restore this same boat. She gave me evil eyes and said, "Yes it's a gorgeous boat but we just bought a new boat" She must not understand MBS. I'm flippin in love with this model Glastron!

That is why I bought it. When i drove up and saw it sitting in the guys driveway I had to have it. it looks very similar to the glastron my papaw (God rest is soul) had when I was growing up. So I guess this is a tribute to him. We had a wonderful time this summer, but now it is time to freshen her up.

As far as the deck goes, no, I am not going to replace the whole thing. I have scoped the whole thing and can find no reason to do so.

Are the stringers solid?

Papaw will be proud! A tribute boat to him is awesome!

I would imagine some audio going into this boat? Do you install home A/V?
