So do you guys think I should shave off the foam on top and glue another piece of foam on top?

I agree with fat fanny...its going to bug you if you don't. I'd do it. Once you have the boat completely buttoned up you'll never get back to it...I say seal it up!

You guys know me well. I just need to find a knife long enough to cut it clean. I think I am only going to do the sides though. You cannot see the back and it gos WAY back and has alot of foam in there.

Hey frisco,
It looks great man. Looks like you managed to keep it pretty clean too.
Arch is correct that if you cut the foam it will absorb water if it gets wet. However if you seal it with resin or even paint it will be fine. I don't think it will see that much water on it that high anyways. If it does then you have more problems then a little wet foam.:p
As always looks great.

LOL Keith... PMSB!!!!!

This boat is really close to the one my Papaw (God rest his soul) had when I was growing up. I was taught that Glastrons were quality and worth saving. When I am on the lake people break their necks to look at the boat, and I just love that. Even last year when it needed work I spent 15 minutes when I launched, and then I loaded, talking to people about it. I boat the boat purely for sentimental reasons, and I had no idea how much people would like it. Now I know why I loved Papaw's boat so much. I just hope that my kids have as fond of memories as I did about boating when they grow up.

Man I cannot wait for boating season. I want to take my kids out fishing and tubing SOOOOO bad! This cold weather is really starting to tick me off!!!!

Do you know the song "When Daddy Let Me Drive" by Alan Jackson?

Your story reminds me of it very, very much ;)

I sure do Handegard. That song brought a lump to my throat the first time I heard it. Those are the memories I would like my kids to have just as I do. The video games and other distractions are making it hard. The thing is, when we get on the lake my kids forget about that stuff.

I fully intend for the boat to bring the same memories to my daughters in 20 years...

My 1st daughter is why I brought the boat out of storage and got it going...

With all the distractions as Frisco discribes the boat is my families santuary. It is the one thing that both my kids and my wife can't wait to say yes to a day on the lake. Usually be Thursday they are asking are we going Saturday or Sunday and which lake we are headed to. #1 rule: No Video games allowed on the boat! I only allowed an IPod due to the new boat having a port for one. My fondest memories are with my family at the lake during the late 60's through the early 80's.

Good for you. Kids would be better off without their games and computers. Family time seems to be getting more and more put on the back burner. Yeah, too many distractions for sure. Good on ya.

I remember watching Gilligan's island and Jaws at our lake place after a hard day of play on the water.....Jaws was a bit traumatic when you are 7 at the lake...but I was back in the water the next day....looking around every so often! :D If Jaws tries to "eat Miss Morgan" the fight is on, lol! So are you going to glass in the foam? I say you do all of it or it will bug you!

We had a Lake house on Texoma growing up and that is where all my memories came from.

Arch, the resin eats that foam... tried it. I am going o cut off the top of the foam and encase it, and then paint it. If it becomes an issue I will Cover it with some carpet. I know I could use epoxy, but I am almost flat out of money for the project. it is time to get on the lake.

BTW,

I picked up a new depth finder for the dash yesterday.

That is what is nice about the boat, is it beaks that monotony. They are bugging the crap out of me to go out to the lake right now, but it is just too windy around here when we have time. My wife just loves being in the son.

My wife and I spent all day doing all the finishing touches. To be honest, she and I were having such a good time, I forgot to take pictures or video. We really want to get out on the lake tomorrow, so we were just in a groove.

Here is what got done.

1. Capped off the Foam blocks and sealed them up
2. Painted the top of the foam blocks to match the bilge.
3. Installed a new pitot tube and pickup for the speedo
4. Installed a new in dash depth finder
5. Installed the Sun deck
6. Detailed the entire interior
7. Re-mounted all the gear I moved to install the foam.
8. Fired off the engine after a two week slumber and she roared!

So as long as the wind is under control tomorrow, we will try to go out for a few hours and really stretch her legs.

I have to say, she is a sight to behold.

Well, aren't you just one big tease. lol. I'm sure she looks great. It's good that your wife has interest in it too. That makes it all the more special.

The whole family loves this boat.

Well the wind is steady at 20 gusting to 25 and predicted to get worse. I think we will go out to our cove later and just see how bad it is. The cove where we boat should be protected.

Frisco,
we had a place on Lake Sinclair here in GA. My dad and uncle built the cabin in the early 60's and we were there every weekend from April through September. When they sold in the early 80's I was so mad but I was in College and had no way of keeping it as they had other priorities at the time. We visit the Mountain lakes of NE GA Lake Hartwell, Lake Burton, Lake Chatuge and Lake Russell. I would love to buy a place and presently looking but it will have to be a bargain!

Lake memories are the best, JimMH I can relate, my grandparents lived at the lake for 27 years. seems that the uncles that never made it back thought it best to sell it. grandma did. those of us who used it couldn't afford it at the time. come to find out later she could have put it in our names:mad:
but the other uncle close by just bought a small cabin and we are fixing her up:D:D:D
hey frisco, quit teasing us....at least post us a video from the lake once in awhile so we can feel a little better......congrats to you:cool:
