You know what they say, CptK...."I've seen it hot likes this in Florida and then turn around and get hotter!". It's been a real scorcher on the Gulf side all week too so be safe down there.

I guess I didn't realize how my statement about looking forward to fall must have sounded to more northern iboaters seeing how that will bring them near the end of their boating season.

CK, just caught back up on your thread. Glad to see you're making steady progress. Some of us Northerners are looking forward to fall just so we have more time to work on our boats, lol.

Keep up the awesome work, I love what you're doing.

LMAO because I guess that's why we are iboaters. Despite our complaint sometimes about the work, truth is we love working on our boats. I take back my appogies for looking forward to fall.

[h=1]Sunday Update ? Water Tank Support Gets Wings[/h]I started the day drinking a Red Bull, but I used the wings it gave me for the water tank!

Several people had suggested that I add some support for the angled portion of the water tank bottom. So I added two wings on each side, each about a foot wide.

To get the contour of the tank right, I put it upside down on a table, placed the support board on it, and clamped it in place. Then I placed the wings I cut the other day and taped them down with Tyvek Tape (great tape).

WaterTankSupportWingsBottom.jpg

Next step (after Acetone wipe down, of course) was to PB (crunchy) them in. Once that PB kicked, it was enough to hold them in place so I could remove the tape. I then laid down a tabbing strip of CSM over the joint, then another piece of CSM that completely covered the wing.

After running some errands, the piece was ready of flip. Fortunately, this ?flip? is not as difficult as the ones most of you have been going through. Then the same steps as the bottom: Acetone wipe down, crunchy PB, CSM tab, CSM across each pair of wings.

Ignore the orange legs. Not part of the support system. Actually, its temporary support for the support system.

The outer edges of the wings will be glassed to the insides of the main stringers. So, I expect the whole thing will be pretty strong. Probably overkill. But what the heck, I?m building a tank.

The support looks good. Nice work. Can use a little cooler weather here too.

That will do a good job holding the tank...did you put any 1708 or other cloth?

No 1708 since this is not structural. At least not like stringers and bulkheads are. The wing connection seems very strong. Plus the ends will be glassed to the stringers.

I saw your videos on my phone and I was just about to go watch them on my PC. So I'll see you over there.

[h=1]Got A Question – Need Your Input[/h]All of you guys in the process of fairing your hulls, do you add wax to your fairing compound?

If not, how do you keep your sand paper from instantly clogging up? If so, do you always sand before a next coat even if you are just building up?

[h=1]Another Question – Forgot I Had It[/h]Now that I’m close to putting the water tank support system in, I’ve been thinking about whether I should put something, like rubber, under the tank.

Does anybody know what materials, if any, are typically used as a cushion between the tank and its supports? One concern I have is that the material will degrade over time.

Has anyone used the Flex Seal spray they have been advertising so much lately? It looks like it would work, but again, I am concerned about the longevity of the product.

Nice tank support for the tank you are putting in the tank...

I am not not using any wax at all, up to this point...clogged sandpaper is a way of life for me...I use a small wire brush and every few strokes of the paper, I give it scrub...

If less than a couple of days have passed, I don't sand between coats of filler...then again, I usually tend to build up the filler in one pass, so that it is usually more than I need to sand it back to fair...if I need to add more, well then its already sanded...

Can't really help with the cushion for tank, but maybe you could use a good heavy duty rubber floor mat, and cut it up to match the tank support...

Have a Happy Monday...:D

[h=1]Monday Update – On Tuesday - Again[/h]Didn’t get a lot of time on the boat Monday, but got some good work in while I was there. The A/C units are working well and making it easier to work.

The goal was to get the water tank support rails tabbed in to the hull. And that is what I accomplished. Had a bit more PB to add then put down a layer of CSM and a layer of 1708 on each side of each rail.

So the next step will be to roll on some gel coat and then put the water tank support system in place. But that will be later.

[h=1]Road Trip ? Actually ?Leaving On A Jet Plane?[/h]This is my last post for a couple of weeks. Mrs Kick Back and I are headed for South Africa tomorrow. My step daughter is getting married, so gotta go! South Africa has internet, but not easy to get to on a temporary basis. Not many WiFi?s. The phones are not even compatible. So, I doubt I will be able to get on iboats, although I?d like to.

I?m going to miss woring on the boat and conversing with everyone here. And you guys are just going to have get by without my expert advise and witty charm. Lol

Back in town Sept 4.

Jbc, troop, gt, thanks for the well wishes. And we definitely will try to stay safe. Just have to be careful where we go, and where we don't go.
