Re: 84' Stratos resurrection***PICS***

yah finally got a good job, seems to be steady and in a fun town like Austin near lake Travis and Lake BUchanan i should have no trouble finding a lake to launch from!

update, last night I started cutting the cap down to fit, as you might remember I had built the deck a tad too tall so to remedy the issue im cutting the cap down to fit...

instead of having a front and rear livewell ,like Stratos intended, I am converting the back compartments into a singl livewell and moving the gas tank forward

the front livewell will later be converted into storage and or a cooler.

had to trim the splashwell to make the cap fit around the transom I built, Ill just fiberglass it in once Im done building new compartments and have the cap ready to screw back together. but you can see the painters tape Ive been using for a guide to keep a straight line, works a lot better than just a sharpie marker, since the tape also keeps the gelcoat from chipping while cutting through the glass.

In the meantime I redesigned the back of the boat to one large livewell and used 3/4" ply as the back wall of the livewell. reason i did this was to double as a support for the area where the seat post goes for the back deck seat. I figured their would be a lot of stress in that area and it needed to be supported.

used blue tape for reference, might cut out this area for inserts of plexi glass as a viewing window to see fish in the livewell..

Now that's a neat idea....hmmmm, goina ponder on that for a while. A boat aquarium? Now you'll need a light in there too.

A viewing window into the livewell is a great idea:)

Glad to see you are back to work on the rig, congrats on the job and the move. Austin is supposed to be a pretty nice area to live, lots of lakes sounds even better:D

oil based rustoleum black paint then one more layer of resin over the top of the paint to seal it all in.

water test, no leaks, ready to install. Also used a brace in the top middle of the box, 1x2.5 piece of wood slotted down the middle will also double for a plexiglass insert to make 2 tanks for tournament fishing

Hey WestTexas, welcome to Austin!

I'm here close to the Harbor Freight you probably visit. I'm doing a restore myself and getting to the fiberglassing part. Have you found a place here to buy materials from?

yep the deck was built too high and the cap had to be cut along with a little of hull being warped out in the center....

If youv been following this project, you might remember this picture of me back in June of 2010 when I found this crank bait as I was cutting out the old deck...

well I found some good use for it.

grinded down gel coat in the splash well to expose fresh fiberglass and used woven roven to attach the cap to the transom and make it all one piece. then painted black.
