Re: '84 Wellcraft Repairs and Paint SPLASHED

The subs aren't enclosed yet. The enclosures will be built into the bench seat, but I worked right up til time to go to work, and didn't have time to build them. Shouldn't take long make them, but I wanted to make sure I had working tunes before going back on night shift. Dang it BiggerBO, your first question is always about the one thing I haven't done yet.

My inspiration for getting the stereo put in came from some folks we were sharing the beach with last weekend. This was a family of six, mom and dad looked to be about 45, two teenage daughters, and two kids about 10-12 years old. We had 4 kids with us from 4-10 years old. The folks we were sharing the beach with decided to crank up some hip-hop to about 120 decibels. There was some song about double Ds and daisy dukes, which we thought was quite inappropriate for the kiddos, and just way to loud. So I figured if I already had some good tunes playin when everybody else shows up, then we won't have to suffer through their crappy music.:) They can take that junk and go to the party beach with all the drunk college kids, or at least put in some non-offensive music fit for young ears.

Looks and sounds good! I will be curious to hear it next time we meet up. I'm planning on adding a few more speakers to Miss Morgan next fall. I wondered how well that amp worked, I saw it in a package set when I was stereo shopping.

I don't know what type of speakers you plan on using, but this amp is plenty for a couple of 8" subs or a few smaller speakers. This one is only 2 channel, but it is bridgeable. I'm running the four smaller speakers just off the head unit, which is only 100 watts total, 25x4. I wish I had a head unit with a little more power, but the whole system was only $200 so I aint complaining. I forgot what speakers you put in your boat, but a couple good quality dual or three cone 6x9s with a couple hundred watts should do nicely in that size boat.

That's what big brothers are for. :D
I knew that you just wanted them in and wired up so I figured you hadn't gotten around to enclosing them yet. So it was the perfect opportunity to poke at you. :p I've got some enclosure batting if you want it. But you should have more than enough space to make you enclosures the right size. I used it because of the tight quarters behind the seat of my truck.
Nice work, bro!

Right now I just have a couple of infinity 6x9 marine speakers (bought them years ago and they set on a shelf in the garage). Winning on the beach is always a struggle....seems like there is always an idiot with a loud stereo. I had to ask one guy to turn his down yesterday.....it was starting to vibrate the screws out of my rub rail, lol!

Awesome thread! I am in the middle of a similar resto so I felt your pain through the whole process. It was great to see that s eating grin on your face during the splash down......and the proud sea trial...........

I have a few questions for you and I need to send you pics of my boat so the questions make sense.......my boat is similar to the other guy on this threads.....it is a 1985 Wellcraft 190 American.........My arms are still itching from the grinding and sanding.........my questions are regarding the deck replacement....and how you worked around the raised inner chine.....my deck literally seems to have a void covered by a thick mat of glass between the deck and the chine....the void seems like approx 2 inches.....its like a fglass hammock if that makes any sense..........can I email you a few pics? Hopefully you still have your ears on.

Thanks,
Jim

Hey there!! Thought an update was in order so here it goes!!

Hope everyone had great holidays!! We wrapped up the lake season early October with a huge campout with family and friends. Water was 72 degrees that weekend, but that didn't stop us. We would have gone one more weekend, but instead BBO and I took a long awaited trip to Scotland for 2 weeks which was completely awesome!! We couldn't help but see people in the Scottish Highlands transporting their wakebooard boats from some Lochs, which I have to say, had some of the best glass we'd ever seen!!

Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years flew by quicker than expected. We found that the family was sharing colds, flus, and stomach bugs along with food, fun, laughter in December, but thankfully everyone seems to be well and sickness free with the new year!

The ol' WellCraft has been winterized and is hibernating for the winter till the day we can take her back out again. Crossing our fingers for a short winter!! Got our wetsuits ready! No work has been done to the boat since BBO started taking flight lessons. He is close to soloing for the time, and is taking ground school classes for the written test.

just another day in the BBO household!!

Haha! That's how I roll. I stepped off the plane in shorts and flip-flops and I was gettin some wierd looks.

It's getting awfully close to lake season again folks. Lake Eufaula has been super low all winter. We'll need a whole bunch of rain to get it back up where it needs to be.
