Perhaps a previous owner shellac'd 'em? Current sealer is peeling, so a little sanding should make it easier to tell what kind of wood.

Some epoxy teak 1st, then coat w/ spar varnish hoping to make regular maintenance required much less often.

Thanks for the idea. I don't mind oiling the teak that's mounted on the aluminum and the ladder. I think I might go with Spar for the pieces that are in the padding since the would be a mess to oil and would probably stain the vinyl.

Re: 85 Crestliner 16 Rebuild

Im new here, I did some of this a couple years ago, getting ready for my new motor this spring. I added a 26 gal talk, mine didn't come with one in the floor. Sorry for the big pics (kinda blurry too), not sure yet how to add thumbnails.

im pretty sure it was the Moeller 25 gal (Product # 032525
Product Dimension: 47.00L x 18.03W x 7.50H)

Cross Reference

Tempo Part Number: 640051

Scepter Part Number: #07133

My boat is in storage, so I don't have it at home to measure, but im pretty sure this is the one. my boat came set up for 2 6 gal portable tanks, not enough fuel for me to go 12 miles out reef fishing in the gulf of mexico

Do you have more pictures of your boat you can post? I think mine is a northstar 16 too, but not 100% sure

Re: 85 Crestliner 16 Rebuild

Here are a few more pics of mine. I just replaced the transom and and as the weather warms up I will be finishing the deck and removing the inboard fuel tank. I am curious how Crestliner built the area under the floor where the fuel tanks sits. I would like to convert it to a storage area. If you look back at this thread you will find more pictures of the transom replacement. The way Crestliner put these boats together it is easy to believe all the transoms will need to some day be replaced.

Make sure you use a straight edge and check the transom for any bowing. That is how I found mine was in need. When you are out of storage it would be nice to see some more detail about your below deck storage.

Also, if you go to the Crestliner website you can find a link to the catalog archives under the Owners tab to find yours.

Have you ever replaced your steering cable? Whats the process on researching a new one?, pull the old one off and measure the length?, mines really froze up, outer shell was dry rotted and spent a winter fishing saltwater

I haven't had to do that one. Joys of upper midwest fresh water lakes I guess.

That is probably what I would do. Pull the old and them research a direct replacement. There is probably a ton of tips right here on the iboats site and in the parts lists.

Sorry, I can't tell you what's on it right now. I haven't had it on the water yet, just bought it and started tearing it apart. Since you are on big water and I am going to be using mine on lakes we might have different needs. I am also installing a ski pylon for the kids so i will be taking that into consideration if I re-prop.

Bump...eboat85, I recently discovered your thread. I just purchased my 1984 Crestliner Northstar (first boat) some color inside and out of yours. I think I have the normal model with the fish/ski package, mine has longer side windows and what appears to be a first generation convertible bow complete with the orginal cushions under the convertable floor and bow livewell. I will be starting a thread after I pick it up easter weekend. I am sure I will need to do the transom and floor so I will be following your thread closely.

Hi Tabike,

Unless the transom has already been replaced and changes made, you probably will need to do some transom work. In my process it was evident that Crestliner wasn't concerned about water over the transom. It was made to allow the water to come into the splash well and run down the ends and then into the bilge for the pump to clear it out. The two pieces of 1" plywood were exposed and unless the boat was in and out of the water all the time the plywood would soak up the water. I have looked at a couple of others and the main bolts across the back of the boat were all pretty well pulled into the aluminum.

It would be great to see a few pics of your boat! Good luck and send questions to the crew!

Well my boats transom is in good shape, I thought for sure I'd be replacing it. Old motor and controls are off, splash pan repainted. New yamaha still on the pallet, going on by the weekend, pictures to follow.

Congrats Burg. The transom is a real treat to replace. Yours must not have sat at dock much.

A am curious, did you reuse the original deck panel for your storage cover?

Re: 85 Crestliner 16 Rebuild

I'm guessing my boat wasn't kept in the water too much. I'm the third owner, and the guy I bought it from and me always pulled it out and trailered it home. I replaced the storage cover panels when doing the floor, same plywood. The floor was pretty spongy including the panel covers.

Funny, you and I are the opposite. You have a good transom and bad dack and I have the bad transom and good deck. I think I would rather replace the deck!
