Hi all,

Well as some of you very well know, I have a promblem with my transom leaking. Well after many tests, I found out that my transom is rotting. I was able to tighten all of my transom mounting bolts and stop the leak. I can tell that I will need to do something about the transom wood, but I think I am going to wait until fall or winter. Has anyone ever had a similar problem like this? What do you think about not replacing the transom right now and waiting? Lastly, what should be used for transom wood? At my work we can special order Marine Grade plywood, is it worth it?

Thanks,
Steve

Steve, you will probably get more replys to your post if you post on the restoration forum. Lots of resto experts there with transom rot experience. Good luck on your project.

If you intent to do this repair, why would you consider anything else?
We used a die grinder (with a 1/32 inch cutoff wheel) to cut the corners and bottom of the transom, peeled the transom away, use it as a template to size the replacement. Using gorilla glue, bonded the layers together to the original thickness and epoxied the replacement to the hull. Then fiber glasses the corners and bottom. Used as router to follow the cutout in the hull for the drive opening.

Ayuh,... The Odds are that it's already Out of Alignment,+ if run, it'll probably cause More damage to More parts...

As noted above,...
This is the Wrong forum for this question...
