That interior looks great. I gave up and had someone do it for me.

Thanks Bro! Thankfully my mom did a bunch of sewing when I was young and taught me how to run the machine......guess it stuck :D

I hear ya on the novice and budget thing... im 3 years in the making right now and im determined to have her on the water this year. My mother was the same way but never taught me how to use the machine... I just read the manual and had the mother on speed dial :D. Im sure she was tired of getting my phone calls but I can't complain cuz IMO it came out great! It always feel good to tackle a new challenge!

Re: 87 Four Winns 210 Horizon resto

OK seats almost finished.....just gotta get over to the boat and fit them :D

I had run out of blue vinyl so I had to splice some grey in...... It will never be seen against the sides ;) I won't tell anyone if you guys don't :D

I still need to staple the backs once I get my holes drilled and t-nuts in place.

Re: 87 Four Winns 210 Horizon resto

Been lurking here reading this thread, great work, very inspiring!

Between you and friscoboater, you've collectively inspired me to the point where I'm almost ready to think about potentially maybe starting a semi-restoration of my 1986 Grew 237. ;)

She's in great shape structurally and motor-wise, needs some cosmetic TLC. Lots of teak to refinish (which I will do), sterndrive re-paint (likely), hull painting (maybe) and seat cushion repairs (hmm...not as likely).

I've done my share of car work in the past and it's always rewarding. My problem now is time...time...time. And I know once I start, I'll get in there and won't stop...:D

Cheers,
Chris

Hi RR,

I saw your thread come back to life a few days ago and started reading through it...

Just finished and I have to say that your work is first class, extremely inspirational and instructional.

I have thoroughly enjoyed reading and learning from your restoration, and look forward to the finishing touches...

The only thing I missed was the video of your first splash...I saw the 30 second phone version, but not the camera version...

Hope it's still available to watch...:)

Your upholstery skills are looking really good...as well as your teak refinishing...

Thanks for sharing this amazing restoration.

Regards,
GT1M

Re: 87 Four Winns 210 Horizon resto

Got back to the boat today and was able to get a few things done..... Big issue was a stiff steering so out came the rack and cable... We fashioned a funnel to the end of the cable and pumped it full co Seafoam Deep Creep penetrating oil and let it soak a while...Worked the cable in and out until it became smooth again.... So glad we don't have to buy a new rack.... this one is reveeted (see theres reveets in a glasser :D) together so I don't think the cable is serviceable.

Got the jump seats fitted and the holes marked, now I can finish them and make the skirts that will hang from the seat base to the deck.... I have to trim the engine cover back about 2" so it stops crushing the cushion on the backs...
I have to make a new piece of wood and glass n gel coat it for across the back....the first one got wet and is delaming... I'll make the lid for the storage back there too.

Pic of the helm and teak...

Here is another issue..... How do I remove this bottom paint? AF paint? So ugly and its chalky and flaking off....looks like 2 layers.

I bet it puts some drag on the boat too.... I don't wet slip the boat so I see no need for the uglyness.... I'd like to wax the bottom.
